Scales tried to stop kids he had cut from going to other MLS teams. He was like a child that didn’t want the toy until someone else wanted the toy. More of what gave the Revs such a horrible reputation. The new guy won’t have to do much to make the Academy a better program!

Ridiculous thing to do. If the kid wasn't good enough for you, let it it go you made your decision. Knowing another team wanted a kid just signaled how bad the Revs were at judging talent and they got upset.

What I'm asking is are cut kids automatically released, in that the Revs don't want them so they are free to go elsewhere. The post above makes it sound like cut kids are still Revs "property" and would have to be negotiated (bought/sold) with another interested MLS team, same process as an active academy player. Is that correct?

A top rated player in the Northeast recently left the Revs and he's playing somewhere else.

Yes they should be free to go elsewhere. Scales just tried to stop a boy he had cut from going to another MLS team.

The whole homegrown territory rule is stupid. The MLS should just be interested in getting the best players into their system, regardless of which club has first right or refusal.

Since the Revs will clean house this summer a lot of kids will have personal experience with this soon. Get out now. Practice with other teams now. Secure your spot because rosters will be full by the time the Revs cut you loose. They need players to travel to the summer showcase so they'll wait to tell players anything.

Yep, really crazy that kids who have never been involved with an MLS academy team, but happen to live within the territory have to be negotiated if they want to play for another MLS academy. Keeps the academies from stepping up their game, since they don't have to compete and are still making money off of players who avoided their system.

It will need to change if they want more clubs doing an actual residency program. Top clubs should be able to compete to get the top players, on top of the obvious fact that players should have more freedom of choice.

No one in their right mind would let the Revs house their children.

People have been asking for a rule change for years now, but the MLS hasn't bothered. If it comes to a MLS club vote, it will be the clubs with true residential academies against those without. Clubs with poorly run/poorly funded academies will want to hang onto the rule, so all the quality players in their region don't pack up. We all know which way the Revs would vote....

Yes but the quality players are packing up AND in some cases aren’t playing at MLS teams at all.

NEFC is a better landing spot than the Revs.

If you have a second passport absolutely get out of the US. Short of that, get to a quality MLS team whenever possible and within reason

If you want to commit to a college go to Seacoast, or the Bolts, or NEFC.
