The post above makes it sound like cut kids are still Revs "property" and would have to be negotiated (bought/sold) with another interested MLS team, same process as an active academy player. Is that correct?

The whole homegrown territory rule is stupid. The MLS should just be interested in getting the best players into their system, regardless of which club has first right or refusal.

Since the Revs will clean house this summer a lot of kids will have personal experience with this soon. Get out now. Practice with other teams now. Secure your spot because rosters will be full by the time the Revs cut you loose. They need players to travel to the summer showcase so they'll wait to tell players anything.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostYep, really crazy that kids who have never been involved with an MLS academy team, but happen to live within the territory have to be negotiated if they want to play for another MLS academy. Keeps the academies from stepping up their game, since they don't have to compete and are still making money off of players who avoided their system.

If it comes to a MLS club vote, it will be the clubs with true residential academies against those without. Clubs with poorly run/poorly funded academies will want to hang onto the rule, so all the quality players in their region don't pack up. We all know which way the Revs would vote....
