Title IX has skewed landscape to the point of absurdity, since d1 placement in women's soccer is not based on any outstanding ability in the sport across the nation, it's just the result of a simple supply and demand formula.

As title IX has created a disproportionate demand for d1 women college players compared to men's soccer and so few girls play compared to boys, as such hundreds of d1 schools are stuck plucking bench players off local club & hs teams every year.

Creating a platform of club team 'showcases' to allow the middle or lower rung club players to be seen by the equally irrelevant college program is truly the genius of the ECNL model and it's enough to keep the parents paying for useless travel.

A proud model for sure to promote and sell. Fitting.

Exactly. Title 9 Ted is off on his own tangent again. Club sports are a grift for everyone but it’s completely optional and no one is forcing anyone. The wealthy seem to enjoy country clubs over the Y and Ecnl over OYSA, despite the higher costs. People will spend their money as they see fit. As far as college outcomes go, it’s a fact that Ecnl is top dog right now (even in lowly Oregon) and probably for the next several years. After that, who knows. Top dog but certainly not required. Congratulations to all the girls and boys going off to play collegiate sports at any level for any sport.

Of course the wealthy favor travel leagues over OYSA. Don't want young Phoebe to get her little derriere kicked by the daughter of the landscape guy. Like any luxury product, it may be better in some ways (say, a Benz over a Toyota) or not really (a Louis Vuitton handbag vs a cheap Target knockoff; both will do an equally fine job of carrying a lady's keys, makeup, and unmentionables), but a good part of the price difference goes to "brand" and to some level of exclusivity--lots of the population can't afford it.

And of course, there's a LOT of talented girls out there for whom college may not be on the radar. Some come from poor families for whom it is unaffordable, others from working-class families where it is discouraged. Not everyone benefits from a focus on college recruiting. Including some who are quite good at soccer.

But still--quite a few parts of youth soccer in OR are a racket.

Yeah my daughter got $100k in athletic aid over 4 years to a great D1 California school. She also got a lot of aid due to her academics.

None of that was the big picture goal which was to go have a great experience and have fun. Which happened. Made a ton of friends and got a great undergrad degree.

Yes, we all know that there is no money in women's college soccer. And yes, football and basketball produce massive profits and title ix requires them to redistribute that money in the form of scholarships to women's sports.

But so what. The girls I know that got a lot of athletic aid all are elite athletes that worked long and hard to get it. Most of them could at least have a shot at pro soccer, but there is not much incentive.

So we all know what you are saying, and nobody here is going to care.

Obviously you can keep on saying it, but it doesn't really make sense. You aren't going to change anyones mind.
