Originally posted by Unregistered View PostIt sounds as if there were some jealousy and chemistry issues with that Copa team. Maybe this accounted for the collapse at the end of the fall, and the inability to win the big game.

I mean, maybe the 2nd string keeper wasn't thrilled that the 1st string keeper came in the 11th hour and took his spot. Aside from that, there was nothing but support and respect amongst the players. Like every team, there may have been some playing time issues, or questioning what's fair. In all honesty though, it was a very solid team, filled with boys who had great chemistry and geniune kindness for each other. Truly one of the bets teams. It's so easy to say that's why performance failed. That's not why and I am not about to mention it on this board.
1) Other than recognizing players who have great achievements--such as the two players who got to go to Dallas--discussions of who is better than whom in this forum are inappropriate. They are not appropriate coming from other team's parents (especially if it's a former Westside parent looking to cause trouble--not saying it is, but some of y'all seem to know a LOT about Copa, if you catch my drift). And they are especially not appropriate coming from parents on the team. This sort of sh!t can destroy a soccer team. This is a concern for the coaches.
2) As noted above--coaches and parents and other observers may disagree on what makes a player good. Jaime likes technically-skilled players; and that's actually not a bad policy to go by with this age group. Technique is best developed at this age, higher cognitive parts of the game can be learned later, and athletic ability pre-puberty is a crapshoot. Many other coaches disagree--preferring big and strong players, or players who are skilled passers at this age. That said--the field gets bigger next year, and I can think of a few kids in OYSA (both on Copa and elsewhere) who might have trouble adjusting to the 11v11 game.
