Once a small pond with a couple bigger fish, now a bigger lake with no big ones hmm.

Just summarizing what I saw in an article a few months back that had Washington #1 and Oregon #2 in producing pros (and I think the period they were looking at pre-dated Timbers Academy). Happy to let more quantifiably inclined determine whether that production is statistically significant.

I would argue that Portland Metro is not a small pond nationally (24th largest MSA); globally, sure we ain't ****.

The journeyman MLS players highlighted above from Oregon were produced from 2000 to 2010. The Oregon/Portland market was much smaller back then, vs. what it is today in 2016 for sure.

That's why a Small Pond with a couple of keeper fish every 2 or 3 years.

Since the population has exploded in the PDX metro area over the last 6 to 8 years no fruit on the trees yet as far as Pros with only Rubio leaving for Nat. team youth in 2011.

Why doesn't Oregon produce nationally relevant female players like the handful of men?

There are other nationally relevant female players who played at UP, but they were from somewhere else before UP. Same on the men's side. You just have to go even farther back to find them.

Mostly because it's a really big country and there are very few nationally relevant players regardless of gender.

Seriously, just one from years ago? Again, shouldn't we be producing at least one or two every year on at least one of the youth national teams? I realize it's tough to get one on the adult national team roster but I think Oregon could be doing better. Is it because our top girls are too diluted over too many teams now with two ECNL teams, a Thorns Academy & a seriously watered down odp/pdp?

Is the USSDA girls program going to really be only $500 and travel? Or will it be like the Thorns Academy?

ECNL just needs to keep all their teams on grad year for all the girls hoping to play in college. The USWNT/YNT players can do DA.

That's because you don't know what you're talking about. 3 World Cups, 2 Olympics, 100 international goals, 200 games. That's by definition one of the best ever. When you consider her college achievements, the argument only gets stronger.
