You are not paying attention. ECNL relegated to 2nd or 3rd tier... Or fold. It will all channel in to DA 1st team. It will stay a diluted mess until this sorts out but will get there eventually... And for the better.

You should be happy about that. Unless you like diluted messes?

Diluted mess is better for the medium talent players. They can call themselves the best when there are multiple 'top teams'. That's why so many are against DA.

It will definitely be a mess. Some won't want to jump ship until it becomes clear if this will work or not. Assuming it will, ECNL has to merge/morph into something else. The bottom tier clubs/talent won't be invited to the party and some non ECNL clubs will. That leaves plenty of teams in NPL elsewhere plus ECNL to create a new viable 2nd tier league. There just won't be enough meat on the bones to have ECNL hang on its own. There has to be a good number of teams for both DA and whatever the new 2nd tier is for leagues to be viable. To make DA work in OR or just about any state there has to be a few teams per state otherwise travel gets to be too much. I'd expect something similar to the current boys DA set up geographically. Yes there are some lower quality teams but teams have to have someone to play.

Unless it's new clubs or new coaching expect more of the same. Just handing over a DA badge to existing weak ECNL teams won't help. Yes there are coaching standards, monitoring, etc. but you won't see improvements for years to come. This isn't boy's DA where suddenly there were multiple pro teams coming in with top notch coaching staffs.

            More college exposure? No
            Different coaches? No
Cost? I will see it when I believe, NO WAY are they subsidizing travel
Won't be free - at best lower tuition (which may keep some clubs out because it hurts too much financially). Travel will remain similar, maybe one less showcase/year. But most families are already in deep $wise so I don't think that will sway them one way or the other.

Other two points - very valid. College coaches will still go to where the talent is no matter what the league is. Putting in existing clubs with new badges won't change much either - same coaches, many of which are substandard.

Over time, however, it can slowly improve things. Coaches have to meet certain standards, clubs are monitored regularly, there's curriculum in place, etc. Poor performing clubs will be shown the door (unlike ECNL currently). That's the theory anyway. Has it worked on the men's side? I'm not so sure. NT performance? No. Substantially more players going pro? Not really. College remains the end game for most boys, just like it will be on the girls side. And on the men's side international players are hot recruits for many programs and that is growing on the women's side as well. If our DA talent was that good coaches wouldn't need to shop overseas.

US Soccer will give u12 girls DA to multiple clubs (probably same 6 that got u12 boys). This way they will get the numbers and be able to have a league playing each other with minimal travel & expense. Then all the top from those 6 club's DA will filter into Thorns Academy for u14 & beyond. The ones who don't make Thorns Academy first team, will already be at those 6 clubs and majority will stay to avoid cost of ECNL. This is how they'll get the girls to go the DA route and turn Thorns Academy into a success from it's failed first years.

Most parents in CA Nor cal forum and so cal forum are calling this a money grab and most older kids won't move to a unproved new league that has restrictions like: can't guest play, can't play in other tournaments and can't play high school soccer. I think US Soccer again has come up with more bull**** to go along with their birth year change. All of this won't improve a thing. All these guys should be fired.

There are thousands of posts on here banging on ECNL because of the cost. Many people casting negative opinions about throwing money away when they should put torwads college. Different name, but if you want to play good competition you have to travel.

Doesn't sound any different to me

It isn't, and for most families already in the soccer mix saving a bit on tuition won't be a driving factor on deciding where to play. It's about where the talent and the coaches go. If college coaches get behind this new scheme, game over for ECNL in it's current form. But they'll only go if the talent is there. Giving up HS and other issues to pay basically the same amount of money and still just end up on a college rosters? Won't appeal to everyone, even some top players. At least on the men's side they can pitch the "professional path" story and offer free tuition to many and have MLS-level coaches.

Yup. That's why many are scratching their heads saying W T F? Why another league that basically does the same thing?

Because DA will be better and eventually less money. Better to cut ties and start down that path sooner than later.

How will it be better and how will it be less expensive?

If everything channels to the DA Oregon will not be so watered down, currently incapable of competing with anyone. At least with a DA backing there is a shot at some subsidy.
