I have a feeling this is going to go about as well for the Revs apologists as the "name an original MLS team that's produced more homegrowns than the Revs. I'll wait." thread did...

No you don’t have to go back that far. Year in and year out NEPSAC schools produce more pros than the Revs. The Revs have produced fewer than 10 homegrown players in over the past 10 years. NEPSAC schools have produced significantly more than that. It’s not close. Just stop.

The lower league structure in the U.S. doesn’t graduate all that many players to the big leagues. If you’re not drafted to the first team it’s time to start learning how they wrap those burgers so neatly.

I’m not sure he understands that players get brought in from Africa, South America, and Europe to NEPSAC schools. These top end players are at a totally different level than any Revs players, because Boston just doesn’t have players with professional training backgrounds.

Spot on. Some on here seem to be implying that it’s the coaching and quality of soccer at that prep schools that developed pro level players like Jack Harrison. That’s simply not true. There are a couple of decent coaches, but nowhere near European levels. Most of the ISL teams are really poor. Some of the better teams, like Milton, are stronger in part because they have former or current Revs players.

That’s the problem with the prep school scene. Nauseating entitlement and snobbery.

How many is “all that many”? What would be a satisfactory number to you, given that you seem to be an expert on the subject. Your comment about burgers really pisses me off. It has white privilege and prep school written all over it. Please tell me I’m wrong, and what you mean by that.

                    How many can you name?

Sometimes the truth hurts. A Burger King restaurant manager salary is $40,360. The average USL salary is $25,000-$30,000.

Yup. It’s on like donkey Kong. Get the popcorn.

And yet if that $25,000-30,000 was a soccer scholarship you would see parents crowing about how great it is. Funny how cheaply you can be bought off and still look down on those that earn their money.

While there is that element you'll find that same problem in many top public districts as well. Many prep schools are incredibly generous with financial assistance to bright kids or athletes they really want. The student body is more diverse than you think.

Because you're getting an education with that and won't need to be a BK manager

This could be the dumbest comment I’ve ever read here.

A $25k scholarship that reduces the cost of attendance at a college or university makes a person’s investment in an education even more attractive.

Lifetime earnings increase for those with undergrad and grad degrees. Colleges teach students how to think critically. Studies within a major can build marketable skills.

Not having a degree can be a barrier to entry to even entry level jobs.

I believe more students should pursue a trade. I’m all for kids that aren’t enthusiastic about school becoming electricians, plumbers or tin knockers.

USL soccer isn’t a trade. USL soccer doesn’t come with a diploma. USL soccer might help you get a job at Wegotsoccer, but having “soccer player” on your resume above your high school education is a ticket straight to the drive-thru window.

Walking away from a decent college scholarship to play crap lower level "pro" soccer in the US is such a bad idea - unless the family can afford college later on once the short lived "pro" career is over. Now if you're getting $100K or more to play MLS, even if for a short period, you can save a decent amount and with good planing and go back later.

If you're not "academically driven" - and some kids just aren't college material or don't want it - the discussion changes. For some players/families a pro path matters most and they're willing to give it a shot. That's fine but man the odds are lousy
