The Revolution Academy needs to make some changes.

This is coming from USS, an over-reaction to the big and fast mentality that dominated for too long. The current mantra: is he a tiny ball hog who does step overs and can't play defense?

That is why you have all these non-skill white boys playing defense.

Our region's MLS franchise (The New England Revolution) has an Academy system that Commissioner Garber and MLS prefer to be fully funded and afforded to arguably the best youth talent with a 75 mile radius of its home base. In an already fragmented New England youth soccer landscape with its myriad of leagues and pay to play clubs, does being free and MLS affiliated, allow certain liberties and entitlements to the manner in which they relate to the involved players and parents? Does being fully funded mean the Revolution Youth Academy coaches and staff do not have to communicate somewhat regularly with players in terms of development progressions? Does being free mean that parents are completely shut out of their respective son's long term projections and are just basically reduced to blood line Uber drivers? Does being free means you can subject the kids to gossip, innuendo and rumors constantly pitting one against the other by feeding them bits of information that permeates to an already unstable and ultra competitive environment and culture? Does being free means we allow our offspring to be exploited by a tyrannical Director that says whatever comes to his mouth without any forethought or compassion? My son was a New England Revolution fan and aspired one day to play for the local professional soccer team. His first season with the Academy is drawing to a close and I can tell you with certainty that he has grown to despise everything the Revs stand for and has lost interest in the sport of soccer. I also can tell you that many of his teammates share the same feelings. He is not in the minority. I hugely regret the day we accepted their offer to join their organization.

Burns should fire the Youth Director. Someone with local status and pedigree like BC's Ed Kelley should step in. Things would immediately improve. I mean instantly.

Burns and Scales played college soccer together. They needn't have even been roommates for that give off a whiff of nepotism. That doesn't even mean either should be disqualified but it's not a good look. Though the bios note a couple national championships.

This being a free-market, it seems like Scales must be soaking up most of the meager coaching salary budget and using what's left for what seem like under-experienced, if not under-qualified, young coaches that won't challenge him. (I'm discounting half of what's been posted here but regular readers will pick up the patterns.) Between that and the alumni network, that's pretty good job security. Having risen to D1 (though, Ivies) and back down to D2 or D3 wherever Lowell was at the time, I don't think Scales would have much chance of working back up to college if he even wanted (b/c then he'd really have to recruit on the merits, rather than rely upon being the only MLS DA in the region).

I do notice a lot of Revs "coaches" working clinics and with various town programs...that must be a crap job even if there's extra pay incentives (yeah, right).

Tells you a great deal of the kind of people you're dealing with. The training isn't that great and isn't even the required 4 times /week. Sometimes free isn't such a bargain

Cutthroat you say? You do realize it ain't Ajax or La Masia over there at 1 Patriot Place. Demelo, Resendes and Pereira are all former public school assistant high school coaches. God knows what Charris did or if he even played at all. They have no idea what they're doing. The Dean College open training allowed us to really see how third rate the coaching is. We had always suspected it though. It's beyond comical.

You would expect Academy coaches to teach or fine tuning decision making skills, recognizing how plays develop, defenses, making runs, using lanes, working with midfielders on distribution, with attackers on disguising pace, long balls, the air game etc...etc.. We witnessed three days of a colossal waste of time of meaningless training. I would think you can also work with ambidextrous striking of the ball, proper timing while striking the ball in the air. Maybe I was a little too naïve when we got into this with the Revs but this past week clinched it for us. We are definitely out, and BTW, we were asked to return next year.

8 weeks of High School with a good soccer program and coaches with a solid ENPL team for Spring 2018. We are done with that ridiculous, useless organization.

Why do you think they have a closed door training policy? To hide the bullsh*t training. Dean College practices these past two weeks was a real eye opener. They should be ashamed of themselves. Pathetic!!!!!

They continuously preach integrity, mentoring, creating leaders etc. What they did to that kid was tragic. I hope he's strong enough to rise above. I pray for him, I really do.

No not at all, but the role of a supposed professional academy extends beyond the boundaries of simply showcasing a kid with the hope of signing him to the first team on the cheap. Euro academies exhibit moral attributes as well all the time. Family like atmosphere is common over there. I guess Scales is a douche that has a chip on his shoulder because his son sucks at the sport and has to play for Grafton High.
