I know of a couple ECRL teams who over rostered. Our take on it is when the parents receive an offer they should be told, your player is a “practice player” ie number 19-22. This player will not be dressing for games and will only dress for games if team has injuries and absent players. This player will however play weekly with team X to continue to grow and develop. This would be clear and transparent. The parents can then reject that offer or accept with full knowledge of the situation. What we have heard is players finding out weekly who made the game day roster and who had to stay home that weekend. Teams don’t gel under that kind of pressure in youth soccer. It adds tension between players and parents. The players are so distracted by who made the game roster they can’t focus on the formations or their own game. Transparency with wording in offers is very important to build trust as well as good business practice.

Why is Scorpions advertising all of these ECNL and ECRL tryouts? Does anyone expect to get an offer from attending these sessions? Seems like it’s all for show.

And you're saying that this is exclusive to Scorpions? I don't think so. Every club will hold tryouts to fill rosters with quality players. To target one club for effective advertising is disingenuous. That is however what we have come to expect here on TS.

The offers are rolling out at Select, Scorpions, NEFC etc… Why are clubs holding ID clinics and tryouts when players are already getting offers? Is this to draw in players to fill lower rosters? The ECNL and ECRL players have spots already at Scorpions but they hold more tryouts? Stars the only club slow on offers. I also don’t know why Stars waits so long. Familes start looking around when they don’t hear from their coach. The best players on each team (except Stars) already locked in. Anyone who shows up at tryouts late in the month are going to get spots on lower level teams.

They will just have gigantic rosters.

Not true. Girls have made top teams from ID/open tryouts.

Did all of SSS offers go out for ECNL National teams? Did they leave any open spots for those attending practices or ID sessions? Or will they just roster over 18?

So they have already made 18 offers? They didn’t stagger off like the other ECNL clubs do?

Clubs that over roster teams are being shady. The parents need to know BEFORE signing the contract they are on a team where there are more than 18 players because it makes a difference. And if you are players 19-22 you are a practice player. You should be told in advance, pay less and offered opportunities to play with other teams if you choose to take the practice player spot.

The most movement this year will be players on DPL, ECRL, ECRL2, and Impact teams. Many to most of those players are very good but just not quite strong enough to make the top National teams. Some of the ECRL players could take GA spots especially in RI, some can take National spots on White or Scorpions. Many DPL players from NEFC looking at Scorpions. Surf players are also looking at Scorpions while some Scorpions ECRL players looking at Surf and Bayside. Lots of predicted movement in 2nd and 3rd teams. If you are not getting playing time on current team you now have plenty of options. If you aren’t getting wins, showcases or national exposure, there’s plenty of choices for these players.

SSS ECNL may over roster but ECRL will not. Different coaches
