As another said, get caught with unregistered and uninsured guns and your penalties just went way up, legal and financial. It won't be possible to avoid all criminal activity but such actions would help regulate much of the market. It would also make it national. Local gun regulations are useless if you can just drive somewhere else to get one

No, I think the answer instead is if you are interested in purchasing a gun. you must be at the very least become analyzed by an unbiased psychologist to make sure you are "balanced". Then perhaps you can proceed with the safety courses and any other paper work.

States have pools of insurance for uninsured motorists. Same principle with guns. I like the poster's idea that you get a big discount if you take classes.

That's not true at all. Several of the mass shooters bought their AR-15s legally, including the wacko in Colorado who shot up the supermarket. As did 19 year-old Nicholas Cruz who shot up Parkland. Make it more difficult for everyone to get a gun.

again...it will not deter those who are intent on causing harm...you really think paying for insurance would deter someone?...these type of people have little regard for their own lives when committing such atrocities...they will simply pay whatever is necessary and go on with their crime...it is a mental illness that drives them to commit these heinous acts...all an insurance would do is take more money out of the pockets of regular people and put it in the pockets of corporations...essentially a payback for their contributions to dems so not surprised you thought of it

Getting a gun license in many countries requires medical documentation that you're "sound." I'm pro gun rights but have no issue with doing it here. Same with red flag laws - in fact I'm certain a female relative was saved because the cops took her soon to be ex husband's weapons away. He went nuts and killed himself, thankfully didn't take anyone else with him.

Yes please term limits for SCOTUS and federal judges. It would dissipate the political power for anyone party as seats would turn over more often. The founding fathers didn't envision people working into their 80s.

Term limits for Congress would be a big ask but should be considered. Many voters favor them and it would help improve Congresses reputation. There's reps and senators as old as dirt.
