A couple of kids stood out but everyone else was just "travel good". Being the best kid on a travel team is still a long long way away from being even an avg player on BS.
This I do not agree with this at all. Two to 3 2007 players that were picked last year played on their towns D U9 travel team.

I was at the first tryout for North and the top 7 of 8 kids were very good and would be solid additions to the team.

This is definitely our biggest issue with the club. Many of the coaches only put forth an effort when MK shows up.

It seems like another issue is that parents were told that BS was investing 2 years in these players. Two years of solid coaching between u9 and u11 can make a world of difference in a player's development. Sounds like a bait and switch.

How many coaches are going to stand up to their boss? Many will keep their traps shut when there's a pay check coming from a fairly respected club. That's the problem with having a feifdom vs if he was power sharing and having to come to agreements on club direction, etc with others

Somethings wrong at BS. MK jumping around from one bad idea to another.

So if parents were told that BS was investing for 2 year development program and now their kid is told that there is no second year, I would imagine there are some parents that are going ballistic. Lot's of money spent (what to do with those uniforms?) and dreams shattered.

What do cut players do for the rest of this season knowing the club does not want them around anymore?

The problem is nobody was told ANYTHING. It's one thing if the club plays A/B teams and you know your kid is riding the bench on the B team... you don't have to wait till the end of the season to know what your future is. In the pool system, they rotate all the kids and one day your kid starts as a forward while the next day he doesn't start but plays defense. While it's easy to see which kids are the stronger ones on the team, when you are told you have 2 years, you know that even if your child is a weaker one, he may still develop as he grows, matures, and has more practice (or not). However, finding out a few weeks before the season is over that some kids will not be offered spots (with no previous feedback or direction) is just crazy.

Not sure you have accurate info. Even the weaker kids on 07/08 were top players in their towns.

Nevertheless, I think the team a u8/9 played on before BS says nothing. Our town had hundreds of little kids at travel tryouts and while they generally picked better players for the top teams, they definitely missed some of the stronger players and placed them on lower teams. Selecting 8 year olds for travel (or premier) based on some drills and a scrimmage is not an exact science.

I remember when our oldest was 9, we were moving so we had him try out in 2 towns because we weren't sure where we would end up. In 1 town with a VERY strong travel program, he made the A team. The town next door with a so-so program put him on the a C team (he ended up on the B team because not enough kids accepted their slots). I realized that when he was around strong players, he played well and had a good tryout. When he was around weak players, he "played down" and did not look good.

How a 8/9 year old looks at tryout is not as important as how they behave in practice, how they take direction, how quickly they learn, and how hard they are prepared to work. With multiple kids in premier, i've seen too many "stars" make the team and get passed by their teammates after a year or two. Meanwhile, a couple of the strongest players I've seen looked like fish out water when they first joined the premier teams.

Long story short... you never know anything until kids are at least 12.

You should call Mickey to discuss your issues.

I think he knows there's no money to pay for this facility he wants. He's trying to find ways to make it happen. Also the market is changing and he sees good reason to be nervous. Boys ECNL is coming on board and could take some players away from BS. Also rumors with BDA about MLS clubs splitting off from non MLS. GDA is starting, putting BS even lower on the girls' totem pole. Lots of families are moving out the state and the school age population is shrinking overall, not just because of state economics. It's going to be tougher to fill quality rosters than it used to be. Not all clubs will survive. It will all be about capturing market share from a shrinking market

Wait until the GE move to Boston is complete. There's going to be quote a few less Fairfield County parents throwing around money for premier soccer.

Will the affiliation with NYCFC still draw people to the program?

I am hearing the players who made it were notified on Saturday evening. I assume they are waiting to see who will accept so they can go to waitlist. Then they will send out remaining notifying them they are not being offered a roster position right now.
