There are so many things wrong with this. The press release was underlined where it says beachside initiated the move? Then it goes on to say that they will release players when beachside feel that they are ready? Newsflash a lot of those players that left last year to NYC FC we’re definitely ready and we’re definitely not initiated on Beachside’s behalf.

A lot of it looks like a direct to snub to NYC FC

Was intrigued by the KC Star article about the 15 year old being from an unclaimed territory. Not sure if there’s any parallels to CT Gianluca or not

Would be ironic if family moved out there and couldn’t sign a home grown contract
      Definition of ironic:
      adjective
      1. using words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning; containing or exemplifying irony : an ironic novel; an ironic remark.
      2. of, relating to, or tending to use irony or mockery; ironical.
      3. coincidental; unexpected: It was ironic that I was seated next to my ex-husband at the dinner.

In this case, having it not work out would just be sad and fairly predictable.

It’s like the Old days when the Soviet Union decided which athletes could turn professional

Exactly my point. And the MK quote below looks like he’s making an attempt to say there relationship with NYCFX wasnt peofessional enough to his standards.

I also want express my appreciation for the professionalism of KC Sporting in working with us. The process was model of how youth programs of professional and amateur clubs can work together when a player of proven potential like Gianluca comes along.”

The kid was ID'ed at a DAP showcase.

MK had to say yes, he has a relationship with KC.

The family is moving there for a year, to see how it goes.
There was no previous plan to move to KC. The parents had no connection or reason to move to KC.

                      More BS from BS.

Of course the father didn't. He's a realtor based in Milford.

Mickey probably did the exchange for a coaching job at Sporting KC or the US Training center

Will their board replace the guy responsible for all this anger/resentment?

They exist because despite all the negative news that has been leaking out... they still have a brand that attracts parents willing to pay. People on TS can debate the merits of the various clubs that have sprung up, but in Fairfield County, telling your friends that your kid plays for Beachside is the equivalent of saying that you just bought a house in Aspen. Parents will keep taking pushing kids to BS (even if it's not the best thing for their kids).

This will last a few more years because a brand does not erode overnight (unless there is some big scandal like Mickey getting caught touching some kid). As the luster goes away, parents will look at other options.

The big question is whether DA really matters or not. For the 1-2 kids who have legit pro potential or will be looking at D1 scholarships, one can argue it matters. For the majority of kids who will at best play D3 or sit on the bench on D1, being on a solid club that attends solid tournaments and playing for a good HS Varsity coach who has relationships with college coaches is good enough. Beachside and other clubs love to show how their club is a path to great colleges... but look at the graduating starting seniors on any top FCIAC roster and you will see they are just as likely to be playing in college as the average BS academy player.

BS is in a tough spot when it comes to DA. Top players with pro or top D1 potential will try and move to NYCFC or even Red Bulls. Like other non MLS clubs they are under increasing pressure to justify their value to their customers. BDA as a whole is trying to justify its value to customers. The league is increasingly divided between MLS and non MLS. If MLS clubs split off, which is rumored, then the league is in serious trouble Why? Because it takes away one of the best parts of DA. If you can't train at an MLS club because of distance or can't make a team at least you get to play them in competition. Take that away and it's just another league with a lot of travel and sacrifices.

Go read the commitment threads on the MA boards to compare and contrast where DA vs non DA kids wind up. Here in the northeast down through VA there are so many great schools that kids want to attend but they don't require DA to land a roster spot. If you want a op D1 program? DA isn't an absolute necessity but it will give you a much better shot. But we don't produce many top D1 players. As you said, many can play at a good club with good coaching and enjoy their high school years. Versus Beachside they'll pay less too.

Even if the kid didn't try out for NYCFC (but I'm assuming he did) NYCFC has seen the kid in action in their own games (BS winless and scoreless against NYCFC). They also could send a coach to watch him at many other local games. The recommendation to the family should have been: "have him work hard, train hard, and try again next year" not "uproot your family and see how it goes." It makes both and the family look foolish. It also puts a great deal of pressure on a young kid, knowing his family is moving for him and his performance will dictate the future. Well done BS, well done.

As for the kid's skill? 25 goals in two years = 12.5 per year, under one per game, as a 12 year old. Good, not great. That team is 8 - 11- 2 for the year with some blowout games against poor quality teams. How many times have we seen 12 year studs flame out or merely turn into average players? More than we can count. Hope it works out for him but I wouldn't wish that on anyone that young.

This was something personal against NYCFC. Can see it all over the walls. If Omar had anything to do with it, it was for his own personal benefit and bragging rights. Plain and simple.

You don't up and move across county to be a part of a DA club when there are 10+ options within driving distance. Something isnt right.
