Are we talking about Crossfire? They have the best player in the state? Who is the kid that can fly? And turned down TA?

I think I know who you mean. If it is the blonde kid who plays up top, that kid can fly. I saw him torch our midfield and back line repeatedly, and blistered that first goal in Saturday's game.

The best '05 player doesn't play in the '05 age group. He plays across the river for the '04's

The best 05 will not be known for a few more years- once puberty happens and social lives and priorities are determined. I have seen it with both my older children (one boy one girl). I would recommend you all just enjoy watching the games- there is a bunch of really good and talented players in this age group that are spread out across different clubs which lends itself to good games. Can only imagine how good a team could be if there was a place where all of the "top kids" came together absent the adult driven politics. It's a group that could travel and compete with top clubs from out of state. I know that was the idea with the creation of a TA team at this early age, but unfortunately we all know what happened...

I imagine by u15 the TA team will have a different coach and the squad will look completely different.

One can only hope- here is a challenge thrown out to the Timbers, look hard and deep internally and decide if you truly are committed to the pyramid you speak of instead of the almighty dollar. Make the decision to put talent and development of the truly gifted players ahead of who will write a check so little johnny can be on the team. You will be surprised that many families with talented kids who purposely stayed away this time due to the politics want their children to earn their opportunity and refuse to associate with people and clubs that allow money manipulation at the highest levels and would more than likely support the organization economically as well just not as a condition of their child making the team. If you truly are just about money continue to enjoy being at the bottom of the table in the academy standings in all ages...

For those who can't get enough of their 05 fix, FC game highlights are all on youtube: crossfire v. FC https://youtu.be/PzcsLAjC8Mg

Suspect Eastside also publishes somewhere, but can't find.

And by U17-U18, all but a handful of the local kids will be flushed out of the Timbers academy, replaced with Florida imports, as the local talent pool is still not good enough.

Iceland produces legions of pros and has a population of 335,000 - if this region could invest more in coaching and fields + training comp/solidarity payments we might be able to move the needle.

Better idea: clubs should return the bulk of their teams to OYSA and collaboratively field ONE DA team to compete with Tmbers. Would benefit all.

Like the idea, but when teams play in OYSA they end up funding the Timbers - kind of perverse.

Well if your kids plays in local club you end up funding Soccer Bums with CEO paychecks.

It's all warped at every intersection.

At U15 the little DA will be over and all those kids will go back into oysa unless we have clubs here that's are actively seeking out ENPL for boys. In Washington, at U15 only Crossfire Premiere and Sounders have DA teams. I'm guessing that in Oregon the Timbers will be the only club that fields teams in DA for u15 and up. A lot of boys will want the experience of playing for their high schools and also staying with club teams so Timbers DA will not be an option. If the player is talented and wants a shot at playing in college, this leaves a family to ask themselves "does my current club have a solid history of college placements"? This is one reason clubs like FC Portland and Westside Timbers get an influx of players at u15 and u16. Some clubs, like BSC, have no long term relationships with college coaches have never had anything to offer, like college showcase tournaments, once players get into high school.

Timbers need competition in order to be held accountable. If there were two options, then both entities would be arriving to provide the best product and experience for our children. Timbers = Adidas. I think Nike needs to get involved have a Nike sponsored Academy team. FC and Crossfire are Nike Clubs. Something to think about.

                                False equivalency.
