Go have another drink and stop coming online and bashing a great coach and a outstanding guy who has he's proven for years that he can "live up". Sounds like you have unrealistic expectations of your son's abilities.

If someone is ticked that Jimmy isn't just like Jaime... I can assure you that Cony is a big step in the other direction. A brilliant coach, but as far opposite from Jaime as you can get.

You are in for a shock with Cony....He is as old school (and effective) as they come. He will either get their best or make them quit.

Don't drink, but thanks. Jimmy hasn't proven ****. He has proven to piss people off and cause entire teams to quit. Sounds like you don't have a realistic understanding.

An entire 2002 team went to FC Portland for one reason.

                Wasn't this discussion about DA?

"Long and good history with another coach..."

How long is long and who was the coach?

Some players at hs age complained and switched to FC several years ago. They complained because he combined two of his teams together for practices-they were pissed that their boys were playing what they called, small-sided games in place of 'training.'

My son played for him on an older team before this group. No complaints from parents. In fact, a dad from another club had his son switch clubs to play on our team before leaving for college. He and his son were very pleased with the coaching.

When was this? Westside won state cup in 02 ( with a team that came over from Eastside), the 02 B team advanced to quarterfinals in state.

This happened a few years ago. There is no point in arguing it. It happened, it is well known that the reason is because this team had an issue with their coach. Not unique or extremely rare to youth soccer. Obviously there are some major Jimmy haters and some Jimmy fans. Also not unique or rare that a youth coach would be both widely hated and adored. It doesn't really matter. The only relevance here is that the Westside DA team has a new coach.

I've actually found it quite interesting that entire teams will move like that--sometimes following a coach to a new club, sometimes bolting without a coach (or because of a coach they dislike).

At any rate, I'm not aware of any parent mutinies involved this time around. Indeed, there seems to be one WT parent here who is thrilled with the move, another who seems to be appalled. Whereas Jimmy (and Jaime before him) both tended to like technically-skilled players--Cony tends to prefer physicality. He's no bootboall coach, however--his view seems to be that he can't teach size and speed, but he can teach the game, including technique to older kids, and he does and will. He doesn't seem to live by the philosophy "if you can't do stepovers and rainbows and such by the time you're nine, it's too late and you'll never be any good", which seems to be a common viewpoint in the coaching community.

It's going to be a change, for sure.

I'm certain OP is referring to Jaime Ramos, who coached last year's 05 Copa team, and one of it's predecessors prior to the age group change, for several years.

While 05 DA is the successor to last year's 05 Copa, it's not the same team--mainly because four of its best players are now with TA.

Can anyone confirm that 04 and 05 DA will now have similar substitution to professional soccer? If so that might be the biggest mistake and idiotic move EVER. These kids are 12-13 and need to play and should have the opportunity to sub in and out during a game

My understanding of the DA rules. If I'm wrong, kick my shinguards.

                              1) DA rosters (at 05) can be up to 20 players per team, 18 are recommended.

                              2) Up to 18 may be eligible for any given game. All eligible players are required to participate in a match. (Injured players may be held out, and I suspect coaches may bench players for internal disciplinary reasons; but benching players for insufficient skill is not considered acceptable).

                              3) Free substitutions are disallowed. Players, once subbed off, may not return. There is an exception for temporary substitutions for medical evaluation (if a player is brought off the field to be checked for a concussion, another player may momentarily replace him. If the injured player is determined fit to play, he may be brought back in in exchange for the temporary, and the temporary player may still be subbed in later, and neither change counts a "movement", per the next rule).

                              4) Substitution may only happen at halftime, or in one of three "movements" per game.

                              5) Subbing players in with two minutes left, or subbing starters off two minutes in, is generally frowned upon--all players are expected to get consistent minutes over the season.

So, in other words--it's closer to pro rules (players may only come in once, and once they leave they are done). However, all rostered substitutes are able (and expected to) play.

But in each game, there will be at least four players who play every minute.
