Join the most convenient club for training. Trophies and medals don't equal college money. Athletic ability and time on the ball do. Since you can't do anything about athletic ability, you should be helping your kid find the opportunities to train the most.

Yeah, probably a good idea to join something like NoPo rec club because you live around UP. That'll really help you kid develop.

Good luck with your bootball thugball in OYSA 3rd division, TA lemming tough guy!
US Soccer made every competitive club in the USA migrate to Birthyear age groups, they do indeed control what every club does. They changed the size of the fields and moved to 9 v9 for younger ages.

Posting your thoughts from North Korea is amusing.

Frankly, if the kid has the drive to spend hours working on foot skills, then it doesn't matter what club they join including some rec teams. The individual practice is that much more important than games or even team trainings in developing players.

Is that practical? Probably not. Finding like minded players to reinforce the fun of the game is important. However, it doesn't require arguing over which team could win a meaningless game at some point in time.

No club has to change their teams. They can stay the same as they are now. And no club is forced to compete in US Soccer sanctioned leagues or tournaments. There are other options and if US Soccer keeps up with their misguided, heavy handed, Neanderthal ways of doing business they will lose a lot of the youth soccer landscape. They don't have a monopoly on soccer in this country. All they have is membership in a foreign body (FIFA). Other organizations can and do compete in this space.

Fact the US Soccer Year Age Groups have changed in conformance with US Soccer's Birth year initiative. The structure has been changed whether you want to believe it or not, it's done. There are other options of course, just not on this planet where the Birth year age group is the norm globally. Please in the meantime find yourself a spaceship that's takes you to an intergalactic worm hole and start your own way of structuring youth age groups, along with your neanderthal buddies colonizing a new planet.

If (US SOCCER) didn't have the monopoly/control this change would not be happening.

What 'other' rogue outfits are competing with US Soccer in the States? Please educate all of us about these 'other organizations' that would be nice to know vs your vague generalization and wishful thinking.

ECNL seems to be going rogue - at a minimum they are telling USSF to pi**off. ECNL could do what it wants, including switching back to school-year teams which is far easier for recruiting.

Just because something is happening now doesn't mean it won't change in the future.

Love this quote "just because something is happening now now does't mean it won't change in the Future".....the founders of the ECNL should of realized this and been prepared for the rapture of US GDA on their program and work diligently to improve their methods and product vs allowing never been coaches and teams from remote areas joining in this massive ponzi scheme money grab that is now being imploded.

                  Hindsight is 20/20.

ECNL Announces New Member Clubs for 2016-17 Season

RICHMOND, VA (April 8, 2016) – The Elite Clubs National League is proud to announce the addition of five new member clubs beginning in the 2016-2017 season:
                    •Boston Breakers Academy (MA)
                    •Seattle Reign Academy (WA)
                    •Tampa Bay United (FL)
•Western New York Flash Academy (NY)
                    •Weston FC (FL)
The Seattle Reign Academy will likely be the tipping point for the Washington team's strength and depth. Up until recently XFire and WPFC both obtained depth from taking Oregon based players and attracting better Seattle based players away from other clubs like Eastside. The more options available the more likely they won't get to throw as wide of a net. This will be good for Oregon as we will become more competitive.

This is an announcement about these clubs 2016-17 stepping stone, quick trip to park in the ECNL with the hope of getting selected for the US GDA for the Fall of 2017. Smart move by Seattle Reigin members of the parent NWSL.

With the advent of the Timbers/Thorns US GDA it's true Oregon will become more competitive and consolidate all the best talent onto just a couple of age specific HS aged teams vs the watered down mess of what's going on in OYSA and ECNL.

Maybe it will take a turn for the better in Oregon within a year an half.

Thanks Timbers/Thorn and US Soccer for pulling our families and players out of this ugly cesspool of diluted girls soccer. Appreciated. With that said can you get us any quality coaches? That's the biggest gripe currently.

Imploded. Sure. I guess that's why they're adding more, making sure there's even fewer clubs wanting to do DA. ECNL may shrink but it isn't going away, nor will GDA be as big/quality Ussf thinks it will be

The more they add the less elite.

TA lemming dad BSing his way through another 40-ouncer again today. Thorns aren't getting a GDA. GDA is essentially stillborn as it is. Top clubs have told US Soccer "we don't need you to tell us what to do". And they don't. US Soccer can't run all those clubs by themselves, now can they?

Which means that every team added to GDA is less elite than the last club added to ECNL. WooHoo! Let's play OYSA 3rd division and call it GDA. Wait, the Timbers clubs already do that - up until U14 that is when all their girls teams fold up for lack of talent.

The less elite the more likely girls are to move to a multi age group consolidated team.
