Checking in from another state - my son is looking at UP, seems promising academically and soccer wise. What's the scoop on the men's side? From what I've scanned here it seems the women's is a mess. Is it only a coaching issue on the women's side or a system wide/AD issue with sports in general.
thanks in advance - can't always get a clear story on these recruiting visits.

The soccer programs suffered in recent years due to stagnant coaching-coaches from an area well respected yputh soccer club seem to have lost their touch.
The men's coach is new and I am optimistic about his philosophy and his UCLA Bruins coaching background. I also think that he's recruited a well-rounded team from all over. This fact alone could make quite the difference over time. Previously, the former coaches relied heavily on rostering players from their former youth club connections.
I'm not sure what other schools you and your son are looking at but perhaps you should talk to the coaches more and ask to talk to some former UCLA players and current UP players. Don't forget to check out the school departments too.
Good luck!

The UP program fairs just as well today as it ever has outside of those few "special" years, and it is just a little private school, after all.
