MLS is a cup competition. Anyone can win it. That's the only way it will work here. You've got to be pretty crappy to not make the play offs.

Checking in from another state - my son is looking at UP, seems promising academically and soccer wise. What's the scoop on the men's side? From what I've scanned here it seems the women's is a mess. Is it only a coaching issue on the women's side or a system wide/AD issue with sports in general.

thanks in advance - can't always get a clear story on these recruiting visits.

This is not the place. Weird anonymous chart room. Trust me. Move along.

Gresham isn't another state - although we wish it was.

At least it produces boys who go play in college, unlike Thusc who produces boys who play till U13.

UP is a great school academically= My daughter graduates from there this May.

The soccer programs suffered in recent years due to stagnant coaching-coaches from an area well respected yputh soccer club seem to have lost their touch.

The men's coach is new and I am optimistic about his philosophy and his UCLA Bruins coaching background. I also think that he's recruited a well-rounded team from all over. This fact alone could make quite the difference over time. Previously, the former coaches relied heavily on rostering players from their former youth club connections.

I'm not sure what other schools you and your son are looking at but perhaps you should talk to the coaches more and ask to talk to some former UCLA players and current UP players. Don't forget to check out the school departments too.

                Good luck!

The reason the women's soccer team has "suffered" in recent years is that you don't get the world's best player to play for your school every year. Comparing UP women's team to the best they'll ever be instead of what they've always been before and after the "peak" is unfair. The UP program fairs just as well today as it ever has outside of those few "special" years, and it is just a little private school, after all.

The last time Thusc put out a boys player into college was.......... Hmmmm. The next one will be the first one. Thanks Thusc for being cannon fodder for your U11-U13 teams. At U14, well, there are no boys teams above U13 so never mind.

So that is the bar then. I think the legends would be disappointed in your assessment. Think Tiff M was early 90's. From then thru 2013 were pretty good years. How many times did they miss the Tourney from say 94 thru 2013?

THUSC doesn't produce anything! Oh, yes they do....they are showing us how not to develop children. The board at THUSC should be ashamed of themselves. The weird thing is that they advertise a sports psychologist. He or she must be terrible? If you have people in charge for 15 years and this is what you have produced, then it's time for a change. The parents at THUSC will continue to whine about the club but do nothing about it.

This is a post from an Oregonian looking to stir the pot. Nice try!

Making the tourney and winning the title are two completely different things. They haven't missed the tourney very often, but they only won it when they had the world's best player. Your expectations of a little private Catholic school on the bluff are a bit too high.

OP = I know TS has lots of BS but I am legit. I also know to take TS information with many grains of salt, but sometimes there are tidbits of good info. We're on the East coast but my son wants to be out west and is focusing his efforts there (we're from CA originally and also want to be back out that way eventually). Portland seems like a very good fit for him academically, size etc. so if it's a good soccer program for him win/win.

For the poster with a polite response - thank you

My expectation would be that they win more than they lose, be in the running for the conference title and play in the season end ncaa tourney. This hasn't been unrealistic till recently.
