It forces them to use space and pass and keep good form. If they are just doing bootball on the big field it is a coaching problem, not a field size problem.
The beauty of mini-mod is that it takes away the space and time, forcing the players to think, move, and play the ball more quickly. It really separates the players with good first touch from those without. Watch some of the top WA teams that played 9v9 at U11 and you'll see how much faster they play than teams that played 11v11 at the same age.

I totally agree. Look at how this team struggled against the top 9v9 teams in Seattle this year after blowing everyone away on the big fields. They weren't used to the pressure and backed down. I don't think it was a "better first touch" thing, rather a "holy crap how are they on me so fast" thing. After their results at crossfire, I think they are starting to get it.

How and why did they even play 11v11 at U10? Seems counter productive if they have a good team.

OPL changed to 9v9 for U11 this year. Not sure why they play OPL if the real competition is in Seattle.

Do NWCL spots in Washington only go to premier clubs too? Is that why they played in the THUSC tournament this year to qualify as an Oregon team?

Interesting thread, but it doesn't make sense why a good team wouldn't be allowed to compete just because of their club.

Washington is consolidating talent by only allowing so many clubs in a certain area to have RCL status

That only doesn't make sense in Vantucky. No talent, No good clubs, why consolidate? If I lived there I would drive my DD over to Oregon.

Washington is divided into districts and associations for purposes of soccer. The RCL allows only 1 RCL club per association. In the SW Washington Association that is Washington Timbers, although they are now a non-voting affiliate member as they place very few (<6) teams in the RCL each year. The next closest RCL club is Blackhills FC in Tumwater but that is in a different association and RCL teams must reside within their association.

A team from Pacific FC that wanted to play in the RCL could a) move to Washington Timbers with the permission of Pacific FC or b) ask WashT to sponsor their entry into the league as an "affiliated" team. Not sure either of these options are very likely to happen.

NWCL spots in Washington go to RCL clubs, along with 1 per age group to the Puget Sound Premier League (PSPL).

How many associations are there? Rumor has it that WT got a team in the U11 NWCL without earning it. Certainly seems like a bad move by the WT to not sponsor the PFC team. Why go to NWCL and get blown away? At least send a team from Vantucky that can compete. It would have left 1 more spot for an Oregon team....well, probably would have ended up being another THUSC team and that isn't good for anyone either.

WashT puts teams in the Washington side of the NWCL brackets when not enough RCL teams accept their invitations. They do this as a carrot to keep kids from leaving the club. Most of the WashT teams in NWCL never actually qualified for it in any way but they are there...

There are 17 RCL clubs now that Highline Premier has been kicked out. NWCL invitations go out to the teams that finish in the top 5-6 spots in RCL division 1. If some decline, the spots are first come first served and Sunny is always there with his $950 to get his unqualified teams in.

They call it champions league...you would think you would have to be a champion of more than just a##-kissing to get a team in. Makes it a joke really.

Weren't the WT Reds a champion of their own tournament? Wait a second...I take that back. They weren't.
