Right now you have the OPC making and keeping all their profits, sharing with nobody, except for their $60k/yr payment to the Timbers to not compete against them. They call it sponsorship, but why are they paying the Timbers to sponsor their league and activities, youd think it would be the other way around.
Then you have the Timbers and GW. They have or are soon going to enter into an agreement to take over the day to day activities of OYSA. They have 5 alliance clubs now, claim to have another 5 waiting in the wings that want to join up or partner. That gives them 10 clubs state wide and all the other clubs that currently play in the OYSA leagues (greater then the OPL, especially if the Timbers pull out, leaving them with just 6 remaining "founding" clubs). Im sure they think that they can sway the "non member" clubs now playing in the OPL to play in the OYSA leagues and ultimately collapsing the OPL.
If that happens, I wouldn't want to be have a child playing for FC, OSSA or THUSC. They wont have anyone to play but each other, in a league that has no direction outside our state and no support for further development.
In order for all of this to work, they all have to want to work together. The OPL will make less money per team entered into the leagues, but will have ALL of the teams in the entire state playing in one league that they manage. I can see some resistance coming from the OPC right away.

One of the many problems with OYSA was the overly generous pay for limited value of many of its employees. $105,000 per year for a Technical Trainer guy that hadn't the soccer resume to earn $55,000. About 11 staff at OYSA instead of the 6 that ran all of the much larger SoCal's office, (with better results). Wasted money is how I feel OYSA did in Oregon youth soccer. Let alone the sheer incompetence. I rather put more money into DOC"s hands and get better DOCs than have the absolute disgusting performance of the previous OYSA group. And, the OYSA staff had exceptionally limited knowledge of the game of soccer.
Putting a model of a solution forward rather than just complaining, it would be my preference that money that went into a state organization would be re-invested into soccer, rather than being paid as profit.
Sorry the premise I was responding to was the idea of creating the solution instead of just complaining back and forth.
No, I am not on crack...are you?

So to Digest this...
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostMy starting point, all clubs and teams need to be in one organization. That organization is responsible for competition within the borders of Oregon and a national championship path. Their oversight ends there. If a club wants to affiliate teams to any of the regional leagues that is up to them to gain entry, the state organization will do its part to help.
There should be two state championship paths, one for teams who wish to continue to regionals, and one for teams who do not want to travel. If you enter the regional focused tournament you are committing to travel if you win.Originally posted by Unregistered View PostI would add that the administrating organization should be a non-profit focused on the growth improvement of Soccer in Oregon. Program fees charged will be re-invested to help member clubs provide better services, help make soccer more affordable, and help make ongoing improvements in the Oregon Soccer world (language not perfect, but the intent is there)Originally posted by Unregistered View PostI for one agree that the state needs to get back together and play at a higher level... ie Region IV instead of nothing. There are still some very strong teams playing in the Region IV championship .. primarily all strong teams that are not ECNL. Absent ECNL or participation in the Academy on the boys side it is a very good path. We should not be so short sighted.

Sayonara OPL
The fat lady is singing. The sun is going down. OPL is toast. OPL's days are numbered. Greed got in the way, they became another bloated organization that cared only about themselves. Conflict of interest all over or the appearance of conflict of interest. It is over. Another great day for soccer in Oregon.

If the remaining OPL clubs dont follow..... FC, OSSA, THUSC, PCU, OSA, LO & SSC will just be playing themselves in a league (as it is now) that goes no where, amounts to nothing and will most likely implode rather quickly if at least 2 of the above mentioned depart leaving some with egg on their face to the customers (parents and players alike).
Ive said since they day they departed, this group of men are made up of some of the most egotistical greedy SOB's that walk our lands. All it was going to take was for one of them (kinda always knew it would be GW) to organize quickly and either over throw the rest or depart and fracture it even more, forcing the group to choose sides and undermine the rest.
Now if GW/OYSA will allow all the Vantucky-ites to play in and compete for the Oregon titles, we will truly have a state title worth competing for and moving on to regionals with respect and power that they are the best the state and all it's participating members have to offer. Just change the name of our brutha's North of the border to Northside Timbers and open up a PO Box in Janzten Beach with an Oregon mailing address.

GW, TA, JB, FM, JR, CK, MS (probably missing a few) have been calling the shots for years in premier soccer, especially if you count ODP. GW and CK are the biggest nightmares and guess who will run the new competitive future program for us. And we can look forward to even more Vancouver nonsense on this Oregon soccer forum when they join our state cup. Funny and tragic.
