as far as ODP is concerned….. it needed to die in order to be reborn. This is the death kick before it hopefully rises to become a truly independent opportunity. But the only way this happens is to keep every single stupid a-s soccer bum local club coach as far away from it as possible. It needs to be a completely separate group. How that happens? I don’t know. But until it does you will get the same crap as always. Players that are connected to the coach, parents that pay a little more to the club or have influence and the rare few that are talented enough to be there on their own merit.
easy enough done, don't hire club coaches. There are so many good coaches not connected to clubs. High School, College, Jr College etc....

This is 1,000% correct. It’s the only solution. As long as club coaches are involved in this it will be the same year after year. And get some coaches in that can actually help develop elite players and compete. Why put the same low-level club coaches that are in charge of coaching rec clubs and have terrible records.

The coaches are not elite, how can they elevate the experience?

burn the whole thing down and start over

The numbers don’t lie. There was pathetically low turn out this year at all age groups, but especially 08+ ages.

that was before the announced takeover by OYSA. I think next year if they don’t make major changes it will dry up to almost nothing. And taking teams with this level of a pool to showcase events only makes the state of Oregon soccer look really bad. That isn’t good for anyone.

They are trying to take kids to Costa Rica? Are you joking me? You can’t even beat a local club team and you want to travel internationally? WTAF

Last year Oregon took 2nd or better in all boys age groups except one and put two teams in the finals. Let see what happens next week. No one care about girls soccer

Because boys ODP is not serious. All elite players are now in academy teams and don’t play ODP. Sorry

The girls ODP used to be the elite of the elite, but not anymore with exceptions of Hawaii and SoCal. ECNL is now the top place for girls and MLS Next for boys

This is the unfortunate truth for USYS and ODP. They are now fourth tier soccer in the US, behind MLS Academies, MLS Next teams, and ECNL teams. On top of that OYSA runs the program like it doesn’t matter and are just doing it because they always have.

Cut down fall league schedules and have ODP specific weekends so there are less missed trainings, make the travel teams in November along with removing pay to play barriers, and figure out how to address the questions around club favoritism and private coaching ties.

If OYSA wants ODP to matter, then OYSA has to make it matter. Otherwise let’s just all agree it’s about as meaningful as any random summer tournament.

This was a Timbers program but due to off the field issues the Timbers dumped this back on OYSA with everything else. (GW basically held a money gun to OYSA's head to take control of youth soccer including ODP many years ago).

So when OYSA got handed this program back I don't think it came with the money already spent. They just dumped it. So they aren't cheap, they are poor.

                  Thanks again Timbers !!!
                  Thanks for chiming in OYSA.

Why would the transfer come with the money spent??? That money was for RTC trainings (8+ weeks) and gear. Was never intended to carry over into ODP no matter it it was changing hands or not.

OYSA is now charging $400+ for 2 weekends of tryouts/trainings and a friendship cup. Kids have have to pay separately for Phoenix trip. The ODP fees are supposed to also include new gear which OYSA is refusing to fulfill and if you call Tursi’s they say they don’t know what you’re talking about. No one wants to take responsibility and they’ve already taken people’s money. If they’re going to defraud people and take their money the least they could do is figure out a way to get these kids some real jerseys. They are cheap, not poor. It’s all pretty unethical.

Makes sense the local clubs defraud us but cover it up with expensive gear and year round travel that takes us nowhere.

I applaud the ODP trams wearing Tee Shirts, a dose of reality should be worn proudly.

BS if your kid made it you got an email with a code to order all the gear for free.

Yes, but not free. The fee for the gear is included in your $400 ODP fee. And then try to tell Tursi’s you want your gear, and they’ll say no if you already got it during the RTC round. You’re paying for 2 sets and only getting one

That’s your fault for doing RTC I guess. I actually didn’t even know that was a thing still. Both my kids have made the ODP regional teams for extra soccer each time they’ve tried out . I’m not worried about a few hundred dollars and we aren’t trying to dress them in some adidas gear unless we have to anyway . Stop bothering the nice people at tursi because you want some extra crappy adidas basic gear.

Agreed. Tired if hearing all these first time odp parents on here bitching. My Son did ODP every year except when he was in DA and was not allowed. Prices are the same as they were 5 years ago. There a bunch of people on here who talk ****, or bitch but honestly, they are just bitter and jealous people. Yes, there were some idiots involved in the process (I see you Erik). Yes, there were some absurdly bad coaches (I see you Conie) But it ID not about them. It is about the players. Always has been, always will. My Son went to Regionals every year and met up and played with some really good players. Don't listen to the ECNL or MLS next honks. Over half of the 05 MLS kids who were booted (and they all were) have zero college offers. I find that sad. Plenty of OYSA 05's have D1 and D2 committments. That is all that needs to be sId about MLS. ECNL is just another league. Some good teams, plenty of bad teams. Hope OYSA keeps ODP alive. It was always a good experience for my Son...and the 05's always represented Oregon well.

Lmfao...Sure, I guess by your definition 4 scholarship offers of $15K (2 for Division 1 and 2 for Division II) sucks. But, go ahead and tell yourself you know more and that your experience means more than anybody else's. That is the problem around here. Everybody bitching and missing the big picture. If your kid can play...they will.
