I believe Holly wants to win and she will do what she has to to make that happen

I have no doubt that she wants to win, she just has no clue how to do it.

Putting the top players on varsity seems logical to me.

Her teammate Whitney is a much better player. Tualatin will be fine, they return a very good squad. By far Jill Farley is much more talented player. If Popma was in the Metro league, she'd have trouble scoring half of what she had in the Pac division.
Sour grapes? Jealous maybe. The girl was outstanding last year and the year before. Fortunately she had been judged by the soccer community on her accomplishments as a player, which were prodigious. Anyone who claims otherwise are likely to have ulterior motives. 100 career goals, that is simply incredible. 23 last year even though she was injured and missed games. Undefeated senior season 19-0 and a 6A State Championship. These other more talented players I'm sure are good players, but no one else can claim that kind of career.

I actually think training 5-6 days a week keeps them in shape, but maybe wears them down too much. HS makes for a whole different kind of season, playing against some of your club team while playing with different clubs and players. I think it all helps players prepare for college and different opportunities. And the cheering and atmosphere is usually much more exciting than club! I really enjoy the community of mixing your neighborhood school with your club. Very fun for me.
I can see how it might be fun if your HS is one of the few that have enough talent to field a real soccer team. I can guarantee you that playing HS soccer in Oregon will not prepare you for college. That is funny. Community spirit is nice though.

You can usually look at either the high school website or the club website where they play. If they have officially signed to play with a college, it's usually posted somewhere. Maybe on the college website itself.

Most of these are verbals and they do not list them yet. The soccer girls are doing verbals in their sophomore and junior year.

That's absolutely true. The irony of it is that the colleges still want to know that you were on the varsity team of your high school. Even though they know it's kind of moot, depending on where you go, etc.,

Some schools are so small and have no competition that a player can be on varsity from the first day of freshman year. Some schools are so big, competitive and full of club players that a player is lucky to make varsity by their junior year. And most likely that player on the big competitive school team is 20x more skilled and athletic than the player on the small school team. It's all relative.

Plus look at the leagues. Some of them have one really super big, strong school and the rest are barely 6A and are much weaker, so guess which school is going to dominate? In metro league and maybe one or two other leagues, there are multiple powerhouse teams so the overall competition is much higher. Again, it's all relative.

                          Not true..

Megan Rapinoe didnt play a day of high school soccer. You do not have to play High school soccer at all. Not to mention that the Timbers academy is taking boys out of High School soccer altogether.

Sure, you don't have to play high school soccer but toward what end? Maybe playing in college? Playing professionally? When you are always assuming the next step is better you can miss out on an awful lot of fun and memories. Plus, at the end of the day most of the kids we think are really good, really aren't all that good when compared regionally or nationally with other players.

Colleges do not care 2 iotas about varsity HS soccer. My DD has verballed and they did not ask, care or inquire about her high school soccer. They probably don't even know what high school she goes to. It simply is not relevant. If you are looking at a D3 or NAIA maybe?? Even then ...don't think so. So many of the best players are choosing not to play high school anymore. It is a recipe for injury since many of the players are not as skilled. Some of the top athletes choose to train at the highest level all year.

Even so, I can see the appeal for some with HS soccer. Especially for those players that are not at the highest level for club and ODP. They might be rock stars on their HS teams.

I wasn't commenting to the "fun" or how good anyone is... Simply that the previous poster said colleges want to see varsity on the resume' and this is not true..Some kids may not find High School a fun experience at all
