    Corvallis vs Tualatin

TuHS only played 2 seniors in the game. Corvallis played one forward the entire game and packed the rest of the team back defensively. TuHS struggled in the first half finding a way through Corvallis. They pushed their Senior midfielder up to foward in the second half and she created a couple of scoring opportunities for others. The post regarding TuHS injuries is accurate,.

Jesuit coach Fennah occasionally called player over to the sidelines for consultation. Center ref OK, allowed quite a bit more hand/arm grabs (mainly Sunset) than I thought should have been allowed. Possession about 70% Jesuit. Jesuit on the attack most of the night, simply didn't finish. Had some very good chances. Sunset could have/should have scored twice on their few attempts when Jesuit GK made silly mistakes. A/R on crowd side was as helpful and active as a '59 Buick hood ornament. Couldn't even let center ref know about subs waiting. Many times behind the play. Fairly physical on both sides. Most play in Sunset's defensive half. Sunset defense bent but did not break. Best Sunset opportunities on counter attacks after blocked Jesuit kicks. Appeared to be several hand balls on both sides not called. Not really many shots on goal, with Jesuit about a 2:1 edge.

Bottom line: Jesuit looked more polished as a team, just didn't finish. 3-4 Jesuit normal starters injured and did not play. Not sure about Sunset injuries, if any. If Jesuit finishes, its a 4-0 or so blow-out. Center ref allowed opposing team subs without other team subs at goal kicks, seemed odd. Fun to watch action, but a bit boring without any scoring. FINAL: 0-0.
Spoken like a true Jesuit parent. "No team could ever possibly play at a level with OUR girls" "There coach is a barbarian for yelling instructions during the game" "It couldn't have been that pesky (bend but do not break) Sunset defense that shut us down, it had to have been injuries or crappy officiating!" Face it, the Metro in 2012/13 is no where near where it was last year. Westview (ranked 43rd with 0-4 record), Sunset gets beat by West Salem?? Jesuit has allowed more goals and only scored about 60% of the goals they had last year at this time. Once league is over these two teams will be atop the Metro for sure, but once playoffs start, I am betting neither makes it past the second round. Sorry to sound negative but I just call'em like I see'em. And yes, I did go and watch the game because I wanted to see the best the Metro had to offer.

After reading your response, I truly believe you need the help of a mental help professional. You should seriously consider it.

        1. I am not a Jesuit parent.
        2. Durano, the Sunset coach, was most noticeable throughout the match offering helpful suggestions. He was the one constant throughout the game. Fennah seemed to be showing that he is in charge and whether a game is in session or not, I have the power and ability to call anyone over to me for instructions. That method probably is best left to U-11's. While the player is on the sideline, the other JHS players are wondering what should I be doing to cover? How long will she be there? You could see them look over.
        3. I was reporting on the game, not pontificating on last year or the future. Maybe you read palms, too?
        4. Obviously, both defenses played well enough that no goals were scored. Even a blind squirrel could have concluded that during the game that JHS had many opportunities that they didn't finish.
        5. The poor officiating, at times, was equal opportunity.
        6. Have you always hated Jesuit, or just Jesuit soccer?

Those of us with girls there know. It's all the disbeliever/haters that just cant stand to think they've been beat by less the best that TuHS has to offer.

There were occasional glimpes of soccer, but for much of the night it was something else they were playing, not sure what. I think we (LO) deserved the win, but it's not like either team played a great game.
If the game ended at the half LO might have deserved the win but WL controlled the second half. The game winner came with a minute left on a very soft goal. I'm not sure that LO had more than three shots in the second half.

It looks like Mr "soft goal" is back. Has West Linn given up a goal this year that wasn't soft?

I'm a WL parent and I think that LO just outworked us in the game. I was hoping we could get one at the end or hold on for the tie, but LO earned the last minute goal. To me, LO marked WL very tight the entire game and worked harder for loose balls. Don't get me wrong, I thought WL worked hard too and did some good things, I just think LO did more of them. The second half was definitely a toss up in terms of advantage.

The league looks to be pretty tight. I thought it would be LO, WL and Canby but Clackamas and Lakeridge have both played well in league games. Each week it's going to be exciting and it might come down to the last week of the season to decide the playoff teams. Maybe HS soccer isn't the best soccer, but it is fun.

                    9/23 Metro Match Ups

                    For Monday;

                    #1 Tualatin @ 5A #7 Liberty (a non-league match, TuHS 3, LHS 0)
#2 Lake Oswego vs #21 Clackamas (Clackamas proved they can play by beating Canby, but their record against other ranked opponents is 0-3. LO 3, CHS 0)
#3 Tigard vs #14 Grant (I had hoped Grant would have a better start but they are coming off 2 victories. Tigard is looking just plain tough. THS 2, GHS 1)
#4 West Salem @ #42 North Salem (West is proving they have team speed, guts and isn't afraid to get in your face. West 4, North 0)
#5 Sunset vs #15 Southridge (After the tie against JHS Sunset will have some renewed confidence. Southridge will give a good fight but in the end SHS 3, SRHS 1)

Predictions? Thoughts? Lets keep the bashing out of the equation this week, eh?

Oops, I meant today's date of 9/24, not 9/23. Sorry. I will post scores once I pull them from the various sources.

After this week's games, it should be clear who the front runners are in the various leagues.

Jesuit 2-0 against Westview. Many chances on both sides. Decent saves. Jesuit controlled the ball. Pretty uneventful game.

West Salem plays tonight so not sure where you got that score. They should beat North by at least 8 goals. North Salem is not good.
