I'm an Onyx parent and I agree that the game was very one-sided and yes, that goal did go in, everyone saw it but the ref but he's the one that matters. I see the tie as a great thing. Onyx hasn't really been challenged in Oregon yet and this was a great eye opener and it came at the perfect time. Sometimes teams need a reminder that not everything will be easy and they need to work hard from the beginning whistle.
Great job to Nemesis for playing such a hard game. They never gave up and came on strong right from the first whistle.

Yes, really

My daughter would not be happy tieing a team if it was lopsided.

It's Part of the Game
There's nothing wrong with playing a defensive game or even playing for a "tie." You need to define what a win is for your team and the circumstance. Ppacking it in and trying for a breakaway goal may be all the one team had. It's actually something they can learn -- how to pack in on defense, how to keep their defensive shape etc. and create a breakaway. Playing an open game wouldn't help anyone. The inferior team gets hammered no matter how high they aim. The better team will likely face teams that pack it in in the future so they can learn how to deal with it.

You are also on with this comment "define what a win is for your team." This is an excellent point. If a team loses by 5 goals in a game, maybe the goal is just to keep the score closer..OR maybe to win. You do not know.
The bigger picture here is Onyx will need to find a way around strategies other teams adopt to win or tie them. This may take more sophisticated coaching. Who knows, but no matter how much they dominate it is clear that other teams are finding a way to keep the scores close.
Developmentally the coach will need to teach and help these girls how to overcome obstacles and win no matter what is thrown at them.
Of course the other piece of this is this was the game before state cup. I was not there, but there could have been an effort to get lots of girls play time.

Nemesis did indeed pack the box in and it took Onyx a little while to adjust but they did and they got lots of quality shots off. Sometimes the ball just doesn't find the back of the net. (Although it did and the ref didn't count it) I give Nemesis credit for playing hard and never giving up and I look forward to next season when I expect a lot of close games as teams improve and players move around.

I can see why Onyx parentsmight get a little annoyed with the cheering because everyone knows a tie was lucky. But look at it as a sign of respect to the opposing team and parents just appreciating the girls giving it everything they had and got a fortunate result.
Can't believe some here can't appreciate the effort given or don't think the effort should be applauded loudly because one team dominated. Cheering for effort is good thing!

nemisis vs. onyx.
I too was at the onyx game yesterday, lets not for get that the nemisis had a few good chances at scoring as well. While I agree that onyx was the better team, I must admit that the nemisis put up a good fight. It is a fact that teams will pack the box against onyx, and they will have to learn to overcome their opponent if they are to advance as a team. That my friends is the coaches job. Sit back relax and enjoy they grow up fast.

This game is probably good for Onyx because they are going to see a lot more of this in the next couple of weekends. That is teams packing the box and playing for the tie, whether it is to play for the tie and get the point or play for the tie and go to PK's.
Good luck to all the U12G's
