I am not sure what you are saying? are you saying that the 2 players have drama parents so they picked someone else?

YES I guess the entire team should be just Onyx and Usonians...

I think they meant it was more than just the 2 THUSC girls. There were 2-3 Rage girls, 2 LO girls, a couple Timbers girls.

Inviting players later on is nothing new. I don't see what the uproar is about.

My daughter is a 95 and I think, if I remember correctly, they had 2 subsequent 'try-outs' after the initial announcement. Is that true for the younger brackets as well? If so, the girls can possibly get another attempt.

What is really important to remember is this. As of right now ODP is the only thing around meant to raise the level of play on the pitch for a select group of kids. When the process is compromised and so many of the better players get left off it also compromises the program, thus in the end lt will leave us without a program at all. This is why people are upset. The selections have shown a lack of integrity within the process. Eventually this will bring the Oregon ODP to its knees and the OPL kids will not even bother to give up a weekend for try-outs. Lets hope OPL is ready to replace it with something soon.
            Great post!

Sodium Fan- You are correct. The 95's allowed players to tryout in November at the non-mandatory trainings and then again at the first December weekend.

Players that were injured and new players were allowed to these tryout. I think anybody that tried out and paid was placed in the pool.

So are you saying this isn't the case at all age levels?

                    Wait !!!

Your telling us all here that the OPL will have a program that is not subject to biased selections ?

Who will be these super hero evaluators ?

Because right now, right smack dab in the middle of all this controversy are nothing but OPL coaches. Do you think that they will act differently if it was labeled OPL ODP ?

Just about every time I read in these threads about someone or some body of parents that are upset, it involves an OPL coach, team, club or administrator. When was the last time you read about say CFC, FC Willamette, Bridlemile, EMFC, RVSC clubs, coaches, trainers or administrators committing such travesties in our sport ? ( I use this random list of clubs names, not by their affiliation as most play in the OPL, but are not a founding member, yet each of them have coaches that are or have coached in ODP).

How will this differ tomorrow from what it is today ? In fact I see it as getting worse. You would have OPL clubs (that make up the body of the OPL) hosting the tryouts, with coaches from the same clubs acting in the selection process, all the while trying to keep from loosing customers (our kids) if they dont select their players to the OPL's program. From the moment your player steps onto the field they maybe doomed if their dont play at the "right" club.

                    Enlighten me, would ya ?

                      doubt conspiracy

I agree that there are names left off that seem like obvious kids that should be on there, I also believe that we are all human and have bias whether we are a parent, coach, evaluator or interested spectator and that avoiding bias a 100% is not possible. However, I have been on both sides of the coin in a different sport where judging is subjective. I was a competitor for many years and sometimes felt like someone placed hire than me because of personal bias based on things other than the criteria of the sport. Then I had the opportunity to judge, sometimes over 100 athletes over 3 or 4 hours. I was evaluating them amd trying to find their number on a page, making notes, ranking various criteria. It is hard and judgement calls are made. Bias was more coming from what I saw and didnt see, maybe someone looked amazing but I was looking somewhere else. Their family, coach etc saw everything amazing or knew every moment of their training protocol but I didn't see that, but I had to rank them anyway. I am just saying it might seem obvious but it is harder then it appears. I never realized until i was om the other side.

I guess we all should of gone to Eugene to try out then. The kids left off were more than obvious picks over many kids on the list. Most are the top players on their team.

Many people that are posting are not even posting about their own kids though. Their posting about other kids. I don't see the bias in that. The names left off are ridiculous, some from your very own club. You should be much more supportive of those kids.

I think the poster is very supportive of the kids from their own club. If you look back at all her posts they have been nothing but positive, yeah those kids didn't make it why beat a dead horse. Make something happen, call Erik and figure what the heck went on.

My daughter made it but didn't last year, it was a big blow to her but she came out strong this year. It happens sometimes which is unfortunate....

                              No...clearly no bias there...

A selection process like this is never perfect, but the idea of getting in there and fighting and arguing for kids FROM YOUR CLUB, is absolutely biased.

I am very sorry if I came off not supportive because that is not the truth. Just offering a different perspective, not to negate any of the other comments I have made on multiple threads. I agree, it doesn't make sense, it seems very crazy some of the names that were left off, and as you point out, especially from the club my kids are with. In fact it is heart breaking to me personally because I never thought in a million years that they would not be part of the program, I assumed they would be. Now don't read anything into that, I am not saying other kids are less deserving, I am just not from Portland and am not as aware of the other individuals as many people here are, but I am very aware of the level of talent on our team, and they deserve to be there. There is some obvious bias in the selection process, you can call it politics, etc., I am not sure what happened, that is why we are all still talking about it and reading about it. My post was simply to say that on top of those obvious misses, an evaluator or judge can miss things that seem obvious to others but may not mean to do that and was kind of wondering to myself today about my own realization of that fact in my own experience. I am sure it is a combination of both, I never meant to offer it as the only reason or why there are so much confusion about this year. I just felt I had insight that hadn't been addressed. I agree with another poster that calls should be made to Erik and it sounds like there are going to be second looks, I don't know if that is rumor or fact but it should be. As far as the Eugene comment towards me, that was the best fit for us not an attempt to take an easier route, and more kids down there would of made the process even better. 40ish kids trying out versus over 100, obviously Portland was more competitive. However, I am grateful that we are not dealing with the politics that have apparently occurred in Portland, and feel bad for all of you that are having to deal with it. Like it has been said many times, it is effecting even the kids/families that did make the Portland pool, not just the kids that did not.
