Especially when you have 110 kids there. Those evaluators needed to be up and moving to even see all the kids. We had one evaluator on our field for 2 of our games. He remained under the tent for 15 minutes of the 20 minute game.
Really? There were two evaluators on the field at all times during the games my daughter played in - certainly there were coaches under the tents, but they were also on the fields, at least from what i saw

So how did the practice go? Did the coach from THUSC bring her players that were cut?

Too bad. The forward would have been entirely deserving, the CM not so much. Politics, politics, politics, and further invalidating the process. There were numerous CM's faster, stronger, and with comparable ball skills.

The forward was asked to go but opted out

She is a really good player and there are others missing, it is too bad. However, I have to say in this group size seems to be the determining factor of what they were/are looking for. There are a few token smaller girls, but that is not the "look" they were going for. It is not at all what I expected. I thought we would see more skillful players. On a positive note the U14 group looks to be shaping up a little better than last year.

Agreed! The Portland 97 pool is looking good, already better than last years state team, anxious to see the group after the state team is announced. Great coaching for sure, and no sign of the ugly politics from years past.

Yep coaching is good! I agree the politics seem to be left behind with the 98's. That's a positive for the 98's next year! Overall, with the exception of 98 things are looking up for ODP!

That is assuming that everyone goes ODP and not OPL's version

The majority of the top players in OR ODP are from OPL clubs. When OPL launch their version of ODP then the now ODP/Portland Rain on the girls side will have some serious issues.

                          1) Not the same quality of player to choose with OPL players doing the OPL 'select' deal.
                          2) OPL coaches will probably be encouraged to support the OPL version and not the OR ODP/Portland Rain deal. So the coaching standard will drop.

Oh great, lets start another new program, dilute the talent pool, dilute the coaching pool and have even a weaker program for both. All in the name of ________________ (fill in the blank as you like).

Shouldnt we be trying to unify soccer in Oregon ? If so, what is this idea all about ? Money !!!!!!!!

Or maybe it's in the name of wanting good coaching, less politics, better control, and above all, seeing the truly better players try-out and be recommended and encouraged.

There is a reason why OPL coaches, for the most part, don't recommend or encourage ODP.

And while the 97 girls may look better this year, they are far from what they could, and should be. Looking at the 97's on the top Gold and even Silver type teams in the State, we are not seeing even 10% of these girls out there.

There are a few Gold U14 players out at ODP, and a few truly are the top ones in their age group. A few, as in a couple. But the rest? U13's, B team girls, etc. Sorry, but everyone knows who the top U14 teams are, and think about it, think about seeing or playing these teams. Who can you remember from these teams who isn't out there? 90% of them! And I am refering to the 97's on those teams.

There are a handful of U13 lower end team players out there, and U14 B team players. Not to say they aren't deserving of a spot, because quite honestly, due to the lack of players trying out, they likely were the next best. But had we have seen the top U14 Gold teams sending their 97's out? It'd be a far, far different group, and one that could indeed compete with other states in many ways.

The pool now, for this group, is weak still, and will struggle. There are a few good players, people know who the top players are out there, they have seen them in club games and played them in club games. But really, think about the top players at U14, and ask yourself how many you see out there. Not but a couple. Imagine even 50% of the U14 Premier groups 97's out there. Far different over now.

OPL will encourage and recommend these girls for their own program, and because of this, pools will be stronger, and far better. Sadly it will pull the couple from ODP who are there, and even draw the top players from the other ages, but if we can see a program that truly is able to draw the better players from the teams? I would fully support it.

That's the great thing about the ODP level of play. It's my choice where my player plays, not my clubs. I decide with my check book what is best for my player. USYS ODP program is the proven leader.

What coaches are you going to get ? Since so many top level college players come out of a USYS ODP program in their state, why would any decent coach move to a "nothing/nobody" program ? I guess if you were let go from OYSA's ODP you might need the money...........it's an extra job.

Who would this program play ? A bunch of other "up start" runaway clubs ?

No thanks. Ill keep my money going in places I KNOW will have an impact in my players future (as it has done for so many so far) and for all of you that have kids that didnt make the ODP pools this year (and spend most your time here b!tchin about it), this is a great opportunity for your player to get a cool looking jacket for half the cost.
