Many head this way looking to make a few bucks. The percentage is extremely low for those that ever make a buck playing soccer.

A soccer players career is short. Stop dreaming of messi

Messi is like winning the lottery 3 times in a week. It comes around one time in a life time.
ya but you don't understand my kids the best>>>> LMAO I know we all feel the same.

Well you have bigger problems than soccer, to be quite frank, soccer players are usually some what educated here in the states. Your other sports are the issue and parents who don't value education. The few who have the opportunity to play soccer professionally could still get a college education if they choose to.

Good luck to all. Frankly the more that chase the 1/100000000 of a percent chance of making it the better for my son.

My son will use soccer for his benefit not allow soccer to use him and especially not allow those that paint ideas of stupidity in his head.
Please explain to us who is living his sons life for him again?

Why the either play soccer or go to college scenerio? Who says you can't do one first and the other one later?
statistics argue against this scenario. There's 1000's of kids who say they'll go to college "later" and never ever do it. As for making $138k for three years as a soccer player and "saving up for his education"- what planet are you living on?

Try $35k at best (but more likely $25k) then looking back on missed opportunity to have played Div 1, get a degree and launch a real career. This is statistically the outcome of the 'delayed education' scenario.

Look- it's fine to dream, and for some very rare talents, the dream works. But it's revealing that this debate invariably includes someone invoking Dax McCarty's name - he's been playing for EIGHT YEARS now. That shows just how rare a talent like his really is.

"other sports" are the problem because they have huge $s and huge popularity. Just wait a few years and the same problems will infect soccer- but instead of a top tier football or basketball player winding up with a useless diploma, the soccer players will have no diploma at all and few prospects after the short glorious career.

            It's coming

Let's see, we are taking about 1% that go and play pro and don't go to college. Isn't that the same in baseball except a higher percentage leave highschool to go to a farm team and don't go to college. Those few players can now do online college with out having to attend if they have been instilled with the importance of education. That is up to the parent.

Yeah online-that the ticket... or they can do that "Phoenix" thing or DeVry... or even the Professional Bartenders' School.

It's all the same as a four year undergrad, anyhow.
