Citrus bowl not good enough. Phil gets control over something he doesn't have his own money in. He gets luxury boxes, naming rights, ticket revenue, concessions. The City gets stuck with an empty stadium when Phil leaves.

Oops we underestimated the cost. Better to ask for forgiveness then permission the first time going.

Who owns the naming rights to stadium?

Who benefits from all other stadium profits?

      Consessions, concerts and parking.

Our politicians have a history of making stupid deals for our city.
As you say- OC is only required to pay for cost overruns... Won't surprise me if Phil needs more money before they even break ground. "That's not an overrun, Mate! That's an adjustment to the original estimate"!

-OC and Phil made a grab for control over Orange County soccer fields
-Ten local clubs banded together to oppose them
        - the County Commission saw through the scheme
-OC and Phil threw in the towel to avoid a public relations debacle.
Phil threw in the metaphorical towel because why should he do something for free if he doesn't have too, you guys have him an out to go and get ready for Mls. They can still bid for those fields, in the end that will probably cost less than the man hours he would have paid for doing free clinics.

But he's still REQUIRED to do the outreach by his agreement with the County. He just can't be paid to do it.

If OC wants to provide free soccer, then reach into uncle Phil's deep pockets and do it, why the continued ask for unfair advantages....oh yah, road to 10k at all cost. By now people should understand what drives the lion, greed, ego, and purple koolaid.
If OC would have received the access to the fields that they were requesting, all of the other clubs, with the possible exception of South Orlando Soccer, would have had access to more fields than they currently have. How does having access to more fields put your club out of business? It doesn't. This was another distortion of the facts by the Coalition.

Correct, but OC doesn't have to provide this type of program. And if they want to provide this type of program, the Coalition is opposed to letting them do it because they want to get paid to do it. OC can meet their requirement by sending some players to schools to talk about staying off drugs, conducting a few clinics on a weekend in an underprivileged area, promoting rec soccer, etc. Sending one player to a school to speak for 30 minutes to 200 kids meets 10% of their requirement. So they can fulfill their obligation by spending a relatively small amount of money. Even if they would have received free access to the fields, the programs they were proposing were a relatively expensive way for them to do the outreach. But because the programs they were proposing involved repetitive contact with the same kids, they had potential to actually make a difference.

Nonsense. Don't try to make everyone believe that Phil is a poor misunderstood philanthropist that just wants to help everyone succeed. What a load of bull.

We all feel terrible that Phil wants so badly to just spread joy and love of soccer throughout the land, and the mean ol' soccer people have so badly misjudged him. I'd apologize to him personally, but I know he's probably busy comforting the homeless in a Paramore soup kitchen, or rescuing puppies from dangerous breeding mills before donating them to lonely hospital patients.

God Bless you Phil! Let us know when the Vatican finally recognizes your deeds with a Papal audience!

You didn't answer my question. I didn't say anything about Phil. I'm not naïve enough to believe that he is just a poor misunderstood philanthropist. I'm also not naïve enough to believe that the Coalition was formed for purely altruistic reasons. How does having access to more fields put your club out of business?

Nobody's on this thread trying to blow smoke about those guys "caring for poor kids" like they are with Phil. The issue is not the other club presidents. The issue is Phil and OCYS.

I'm not here to answer your hypotheticals or get roped into your attempts to change the subject. The issue is Phil, OC and OCYS. As for the Coalition, I guess you'll have to wait and see their next move. So far, they're batting 1.000

You are an idiot along with everyone else arguing over this. That includes the OC defenders and the " coalition" supporters. All clubs are a business. None are altruistic. We will send our kids to the place that is best for our kids, period. It's the adults that introduce politics into a kids sport - adults from all clubs. Do what is best for your child and leave others to do the same.

That's because you can't answer the question without sounding like a fool. If having access to the new fields half the time was going to destroy you, you must be really screwed now that you have access to them 100% of the time.

Coalition??? About the dumbest thing in Central Florida soccer I have seen yet. How about working on your own clubs and get a life. Losers.
