I see that WFF has posted ECNL tryouts early may. Does anyone know the exact dates for OCYS?

Even if you could play at the top tier of MLS, you won't be playing long so you need a plan which does not include selling Herbalife after your knees are gone. I do think you need to consider this perspective. Would you mind if your 18-year old son could get a job making $36k a year? How about your 21-year old son? Sure, by 25 you would expect him to make that wage, however, for many boys it is a dream come true that they get paid to do. Think of all the guys out there working two jobs AND still playing minor league baseball or basketball. What about the young guys playing arena football. I don't think any of them do it for the paycheck.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostJust my opinion, but giving an 18 year old kid no guidance beyond " whatever you want" is a recipe for failure. As noted previously, an 18 year old will gladly grab at the chance for a soccer "career" of 3-4 years at a miniscule salary. But the fact is that foregoing college to chase that dream is statistically a bad choice.

Why the either play soccer or go to college scenerio? Who says you can't do one first and the other one later?
Good luck to all. Frankly the more that chase the 1/100000000 of a percent chance of making it the better for my son.
My son will use soccer for his benefit not allow soccer to use him and especially not allow those that paint ideas of stupidity in his head.

A soccer players career is short. Stop dreaming of messi
Messi is like winning the lottery 3 times in a week. It comes around one time in a life time.
