I'm at OCYS and I'm embarrassed by what Alan Hough wrote. It really is a sad state of affairs.

#1 I'm not a big fan of some things that OC does or isn't doing.
#2 I fully support not adding another club ... whoever that is.
Anyone who has been in Orlando longer than a week realizes you don't need more options to dilute what is already weak. You need to come together to compete on the bigger stage so that our kids as a whole can succeed.
The funny thing is the same people trying to water it down are the ones who taught me this. Funny how losing control changes perspective.

Their best boys teams for sqaushed by on did our white teams. It is harsh but the way it is. There should be some criteria for getting into a league based on being competitive, not just needing it to better your club.

This phrase "intimate soccer experience" has been thrown around from the very beginning to justify the smaller stadium. I'd like someone to define that rather than keep blathering the same nonsensical response.
I also note in this column that Teresa Jacobs NOW refers to the new stadium as a 'soccer-centric multi-use facility", rather than a "soccer-specific" stadium. Weasel words from a politician if you ask me. I'd like to know what the additional uses are- and before someone says "concerts" I'll point out that Phil isn't going to allow a bunch of college kids to trample "his" expensive soccer turf. And "Lacrosse national championships" isn't going to cut it either.

The County Commission and Buddy are using public funds to enrich a private business without truly knowing if a soccer specific stadium was necessitated by MLS?
This entire deals reeks of politics and backdoor dealings. Glad to see Edwards is trying to hold someone accountable.
Did Phil lie to the City of Orlando and the Orange County Commission about the supposed soccer specific stadium requirement?

It was well known that renovating an existing stadium was an option for meeting the MLS requirement. I found articles going back as early as November 2011 that discuss this. Here is a quote from an interview with Phil Rawlins in the Seminole Chronicle, "The team, which currently plays at the Citrus Bowl, would have to sort out some stadium issues as the MLS requires teams to either play at a soccer-specific stadium or a newly-renovated stadium. The Citrus Bowl is neither, but Rawlins has hope for a new home for his team.
'I can see us playing in either [a newly-renovated Citrus Bowl or a soccer-specific stadium]," Rawlins said. "The city and the county has $185 million set aside for the refurbishment of the Citrus Bowl and we're in talks with them about that. As long as that money is used wisely and well, then I can see us playing in a refurbished Citrus Bowl.'"
The time for Mr. Edwards to ask these questions was before the new stadium was approved. If he is saying he didn't know a renovated stadium was an option, he failed to do his job. Does he just show up to the Commission meetings without doing any research on the issues he is voting on? If he is so oblivious to the facts on an issue like this, he doesn't deserve to be voting on them.

spin doctor
noun
: a person (such as a political aide) whose job involves trying to control the way something (such as an important event) is described to the public in order to influence what people think about it
Example is calling a stadium built solely for Orlando City Soccer a "soccer-centric multi-use facility."
