Learn that my kid is getting exactly what he needs at his age. I wish he had of been in my kids age group before. His old u13 team was fantastic and he had them from a young age. Not that agree with staying with a team too long but he did a lot for that team.

I'm at OCYS and I'm embarrassed by what Alan Hough wrote. It really is a sad state of affairs.

I support what he wrote at least on the boys side. FPL is diluted enough without bringing in more weak teams. Their best boys teams for sqaushed by on did our white teams. It is harsh but the way it is. There should be some criteria for getting into a league based on being competitive, not just needing it to better your club.

#1 I'm not a big fan of some things that OC does or isn't doing.
#2 I fully support not adding another club ... whoever that is.

Anyone who has been in Orlando longer than a week realizes you don't need more options to dilute what is already weak. You need to come together to compete on the bigger stage so that our kids as a whole can succeed.

The funny thing is the same people trying to water it down are the ones who taught me this. Funny how losing control changes perspective.

Really? Because OC sold Orlando as a big soccer market in order to get MLS to Garber. Now on the youth side they claim it isn't a big soccer market. They need to make up there mind.

You're rationalizing your fear of competition in a free market- just like Hough did. Look at it this way- if OCYS thinks there's already "too many" clubs in Orlando, why don't you do the right thing "for the kids" and shut down OCYS?

This makes the top 10 for "stupidest comments" on this site. And that is saying something.

As a DOC for a club it is within his right to have concerns and voice them. I find it more distasteful that his email was sent to folks he felt he had confidence in and wouldn't come on a forum to paste that information.

This phrase "intimate soccer experience" has been thrown around from the very beginning to justify the smaller stadium. I'd like someone to define that rather than keep blathering the same nonsensical response.

I also note in this column that Teresa Jacobs NOW refers to the new stadium as a 'soccer-centric multi-use facility", rather than a "soccer-specific" stadium. Weasel words from a politician if you ask me. I'd like to know what the additional uses are- and before someone says "concerts" I'll point out that Phil isn't going to allow a bunch of college kids to trample "his" expensive soccer turf. And "Lacrosse national championships" isn't going to cut it either.

Just Get Edwars to approves another 120 million renovation to the already 100 million citrus bowl renovation. Then he can start complaining or searching for facts. We all know that Edwards voted against it. This is bad politics and bad math.

The County Commission and Buddy are using public funds to enrich a private business without truly knowing if a soccer specific stadium was necessitated by MLS?

This entire deals reeks of politics and backdoor dealings. Glad to see Edwards is trying to hold someone accountable.

Did Phil lie to the City of Orlando and the Orange County Commission about the supposed soccer specific stadium requirement?

                            Comment

OCYS is building a stadium? Cool! Very exciting!

It was well known that renovating an existing stadium was an option for meeting the MLS requirement. I found articles going back as early as November 2011 that discuss this. Here is a quote from an interview with Phil Rawlins in the Seminole Chronicle, "The team, which currently plays at the Citrus Bowl, would have to sort out some stadium issues as the MLS requires teams to either play at a soccer-specific stadium or a newly-renovated stadium. The Citrus Bowl is neither, but Rawlins has hope for a new home for his team.

'I can see us playing in either [a newly-renovated Citrus Bowl or a soccer-specific stadium]," Rawlins said. "The city and the county has $185 million set aside for the refurbishment of the Citrus Bowl and we're in talks with them about that. As long as that money is used wisely and well, then I can see us playing in a refurbished Citrus Bowl.'"

The time for Mr. Edwards to ask these questions was before the new stadium was approved. If he is saying he didn't know a renovated stadium was an option, he failed to do his job. Does he just show up to the Commission meetings without doing any research on the issues he is voting on? If he is so oblivious to the facts on an issue like this, he doesn't deserve to be voting on them.

: a person (such as a political aide) whose job involves trying to control the way something (such as an important event) is described to the public in order to influence what people think about it

Example is calling a stadium built solely for Orlando City Soccer a "soccer-centric multi-use facility."
