Once again, not passing judgment on the decision to play, but it will be interesting to monitor OC/ECNL injuries this year with those teams participating in ECNL, State Cup and high school.

It is too much. It isn't just injuries you have to worry about, but burning the kids out. They aren't even going to want to look at a soccer ball.

I think I see what you are doing but not really sure of the motive. OC has nothing to do with DPs at rush. As far as who the DPs, that was done at tryouts by our coach. We were told at rush who would be a dp for DA so I don't know where you get off.

You were told by who that you would be a DP. You may want to ask if that is still the case. Was told by OC that nobody at RUSH is a DP.

My boy is 6 years old and we are super excited about the US Dev Academy. We were told that our boy would be considered the Pre Pre Pre Pre pre Diaper Per academy and for sure he was a DP player. Super excited and willing to buy ICE for the Eskimo salesmen.

No, all the controversy resulted from the English incompetence in running a youth soccer club. No different this year- they already screwed up and missed the deadline to get some of their teams into CDL league. Now, they've cancelling their first tournament.

This tournament was never going to be. I heard they are focusing on 2 tournaments this year, and the Labor Day isn't one of them. There is too much competition and it would be more recreational.

If being a competitive tournament is the standard that they are shooting for then they can cancel the Memorial day one as well. The competition on that tournament has been going down for years, and this past one was a joke in my opinion with most teams coming from OCYS. What other tournaments are they going to do then. There are so many more well established tournaments around the state that they are trying to compete with, how are they going to attract teams to theirs. The girls tourney didn't happen last year, so it will be hard to get people back to that one now. I will be impressed with them if they pull off one good one this year. That is a lot of money that won't be brought into the club again this year.

The former FSA ran tournaments successfully. Now OC has declined to host a Labor Day tournament that has been run for years, saying it's too much trouble to attract teams.

Remember, tournaments are typically solid revenue-generators, and since OC has such a nice complex it seems a no-brainer to run several tournaments per year and get some cash-flow.

The girl's Tournament had been run successfully for YEARS by FSA. It got mishandled last year and ultimately cancelled. I agree it has caused lost momentum.

Wrong. The "no high school soccer for OCYS ECNL" fiasco was originally HM's brain fart.

Kinda like when HM was at CFK and strongly discouraged CFK players from participating in Super-Y at other clubs.

I believe HM was trying to convince people that HS soccer is counter-productive. I have heard club coaches complain about over-training, injury and bad habits developed during hS season. The first two I understand, not so much the last one.

As I heard it, HM thought he had the support of the Directors and Board at OC when he announced that ECNL wouldn't participate in HS. this upset some parents, who lobbied the BOD and brought media attention through the O-Sentinel. This caused the Directors to cave and reverse the policy.

I think HM believed that OC should have remained firm- his focus being on the players' health and development. I think OC was concerned about getting bad press right out of the gate, when they really needed public support for the MLS effort.

These parents wouldn't by chance be the SAME parents who came unglued about HM's departure from OCYS and then have followed him like the Pied Piper to FKK would they?

Honestly, I don't know. I was just relating the scenario as I understand it concerning High School play and ECNL. My daughter was among those that decided to not play ECNL in part because she wanted to play HS. We were disappointed when the club reversed itself because she had based her decision in part on the original policy.
