    U-14 rays

Look hear is a little insight from the inside of the U-14 team. They play a constant game of boot and scoot, the defenders do not handle the ball and are told to kick it away, there is no transition and the ball only goes outside to the right. They sucked in regionals and only tied games because of constantly clearing the ball out of bounds and playing a ten men in the box. Just look at how many goals were scored what a joke! The coaching here is sub par in my eyes and he should go back to coaching rec. The practices consist of little to none for technical training and lately training has been a scrimmage and nothing more. As far as state cup they did not deserve to win Bayside played better soccer the whole game and took advantage of the Rays sloppy play.Stay away from this guy he is terrible and has taken the love of the game from quite a few girls in the time we have been there. You are better off with another RI team or in Mass before here!

That's the problem in RI is the sub-par coaching. It's not just Rays U-14. Take a look at the thread you will see problems with U-14,U-15 and up with Bruno,Tidal Wave and Bayside. The talent is there but the coaching is not, so RI will just bleed thier talent away to MA.

I don't mean to barge into your Forum. My daughter plays on a Mass team, One of the few your Ray's U14's have beaten. And I agree with your skewed but accurate description. Even in a loss our team played better soccer from my point of view. The Rays were able to overpower our team but never really played what I consider a pretty game. It looks like there is absolutely no game plan other than going forward and stopping the opponent for scoring.

By the way, Bayside lost to a team this weekend that the Rays beat in subregionals. This is a disgruntled parent making numerous posts. Instead of anonymously bashing the team and coach, leave.

Okay coach sorry to hurt your feelings.

I can only comment on the Rays coaching since I don't know much about Bayside or Bruno but you can see from the style of play (kick and dump) that it is not very good from U17 down. Little to no true soccer knowledge on any of the coaching staffs

I love these responses. I want what's best for my kid. I want to put her in the nest possible position to get great coaching and exposure to play at the next level. The Rays are not it. I can face the facts that they have been in decline for several years and most likely will be gone in a few years. You are a parent you obviously cannot see hwat's going on or are a coach who continues to want to make parents think you know whats best for thier kid. Stay with the Rays.

It is pretty comical listening to what is said in some of the earlier posts. First, coach why are you here defending what you believe on a forum instead of concentrating on a plan to develop your team? Second, maybe some of the parents here might actually have a point about how your team plays? Someone elses insight just might possibly open the door to something you may overlook and help the team in the goal to be successful. Let your assistant coach a game and have a seat on the bench and just watch what is happening during play keeping in mind the so called faults others may have brought up.

Don't take this the wrong way but your plan of having an assistant coach oversee one game won't make any difference. Maybe after a month of practicing you might see a style change. I'm afraid that what you see as the bad habits you would like to eliminate will be too ingrained to change in a single game. You also have to be able to accept the possible painful transition period. In the end there is more than one way to play this game. Just watch the pro's for a weekend.

Sounds like this might be a frustrated parent--maybe his daughter is not getting the playing time that mom and dad think she deserves. If I were trying out for soccer in RI, I would go with the U14 Rays team. Which other RI teams played better than the Rays in subregional? Maybe you should take some tips from those coaches to see where the Rays could improve.

Funny, everybody looks at the record of how a team does instead of looking at what really matters. That is your child developing into a truly good player. Playing to win at any cost as the Rays do is not helping anybody but the coaching staff look good on paper. Also, this is not world cup, but U-14 soccer most of these kids on any team are not even close to being a complete player and will not be until they are out of college. Besides all of this no college coaching is even looking at a U-14 team at this time regardless of what league you are playing in, so lets see where they are come a U-16-17 at a college showcase tournament? You need a team with good technical development to help foster the basic skills which many of the rays players are seriously lacking. Trying out for more than one team is certainly a healthy thing to do as well, this exposes your child to more coaching styles when they are young helping them to develop into a more rounded player.
