Neither one got a call up to the YNT until they were 17/18 years old and both were frequently rostered once they started playing college ball.
USSF is shooting themselves in the foot with this GDA crap and limiting their pool of potential leaders on and off the field.
ill be that guy. the US system produces Crystal Dunns. there are plenty of athletic kids playing college soccer.

and this is the issue...because most of the are quite frankly. IRRELEVANT. Not good enough and never will be for that decision to matter.

that is the point. ELITE talent is not served by the ECNL or GDA but because it is so rare, no one cares - probably correctly

but dont make the mistake of believing that the people you are referring to are elite. they are not. HS soccer is probably a great choice for them. Fun, glory and not requiring of the sacrifices elite talent has to make to go pro etc.

Most of these "Elite" players left their friends behind at 10 yrs old to go play with other "Elite" kids. Now I am supposed to buy into the argument that GDA prevents them from playing with friends in HS so its a bad thing. The truth is these kids gave up on their friends in 4th grade. Which by the way is when they should have been playing with their friends more so than HS. Holding on to HS for glory days is the parents dream. Probably the same cohort who demonizes charter and private schools for taking kids out of the community. They are completely blind to the benefits the alternate path provides.

Time will tell. Now, if you want to believe this, why not do trials. Have two groups of “elite” players one group volunteers to play high school and and stay the course. The other group plays for a club that truly does not allow high school.

Oh wAit, we already have that . ECNL vs. GDA. GDA, though no high school at all unlike fury!

          Time will tell.

Your kids are the guinea pigs folks!

Regarding college ball it's different for women vs the men. The opportunities for the women to play professionally in the US are limited. It's limited abroad as well but growing as pro clubs start investing in their programs. But US college soccer is desirable and many NT players you saw over the last few weeks come here to play college soccer. I think Pugh may be the first to skip college soccer. She didn't play much at all this WC but she's one of the youngest on the team. The men's side is totally different. College soccer is seen as a hindrance to development. Players with pro prospects strive to go pro as quickly as they can, either here in the MLS or abroad if they're lucky enough to have dual passports.

Really only the US has the high school play debate. With BDA there are arguments to be made for no allowing HS ball - it is the top league with much (not all) of the top players. Top males players train with pro clubs for free and there is a well defined pro path for them. For the girls GDA is maybe tied with ECNL nationally, with only pockets of strength. There is a very limited pro path for girls and it isn't desired by many. Top college ball at a great school is.

Very limited from mid-December to mid-January, and in July. There is are voluntary sessions being held, mostly fitness related.

Players need down time. Take advantage of it. you can keep up your fitness without playing soccer. The official off season for DA is post national playoffs to late August. The winter is quiet but is still part of the official season.

Took a couple weeks off, but will now start back up again. 2x week fitness training is just enough to keep the legs moving without overuse concerns.

And how will it look when MLS clubs leave DA? Will what remains of the DA be worth staying?

MLS Clubs are not leaving. Unless they plan on closing up shop on their Academies completely.

Anyone that thinks that GDA is a bad idea, is just hanging on to yesterday. They said the same thing about Boys DA when it came out, when ODP went away. Times do and will always change.

High School soccer is not a chip to bargain with. Its where rec players go to play, and the REAL players play at club.

Have you seen the coaches and the training at the DA. No different than HS coaches
Want proof GDA is a bad idea? See the men's side. What is wrong with kids gaining confidence in different spots than they see in premier or academy soccer? In HS soccer, some of these kids get to be the superstar and team leader .... everyone wants creativity ..... can most kids try creativity against a team like FCD or Solar teams? No, but they can in HS and it NEVER goes away. Top kids are top kids, period ..... they do not get better or worse in two months and all of these GDA kids got to where they are without GDA's help, playing HS and other premier. Sorry, there is a lot of value in having kids play the part of the hero at times.

For those who believe no proof is necessary, for those that doubt, none is possible.

If one needs to play in lower competition to look and act superior....they shouldn't even be in GDA to begin with.

They definitely want things to change. They invest a good amount of money into the DA and get little in return. Very few players, even at the top clubs, will make it to the pros. Almost no one will get Pulisic payout money. MLS would love to either start charging something or reduce the number of teams they train or a combination.
