    DA vs High School

Absolutely what CR is saying is in reference to the MEN/BOYS. But the GDA was designed and build to deliver the same message.

HS plays 2-3 games per week, sometimes more. Each game played is a practice session not had. HS coaches are awful, so not really missing that much there anyhow.

The point is, quality practices trump everything. Games are there on a weekly basis to put into play the lessons learned during training. To many games means not enough practices.

And Gio is going to Europe because he is a world class talent, parents have a European passport, and his goal in life is to play in Europe and eventually play on the USMNT. Great goals, GO GET EM GIO! He will make us proud.

As for the GDA, that program will make us proud as well.... but will need 10 years to see the progress and proper development of TOMORROW's elite players.

One thing is certain, Claudio is right about how many games per week is detrimental to development. Any/every sports physiologist agrees. Are they all wrong?

98% of HS coaches are idiots who have no idea about the game. They just enjoy the power.

Not to worry, not every thread maintains its integrity. The point that HS soccer is NOT in the best interest of the athlete is not even on the table for debate. What IS on the table for debate is whether the social component of HS is in the best interest of the developing girl.

After 15 years in this maze, my conclusion is still just my own. But I feel that if ANYONE athlete has ANY aspiration of playing the game beyond their HS years, then high school soccer should be OFF their radar.

It makes a good player, less of a player
It makes a strong player, a weaker player

Anyone that thinks that GDA is a bad idea, is just hanging on to yesterday. They said the same thing about Boys DA when it came out, when ODP went away. Times do and will always change.

High School soccer is not a chip to bargain with. Its where rec players go to play, and the REAL players play at club.

I feel really bad for any girl who really wants to develop into a strong player who has parents that are somehow cornering themselves into a High School pathway ... cheating their daughter out of years of development that you can't go back in time and get.

Our children are what we guide them to be.... you are tomorrow what you do today.

The top of the pyramid is too big. For 99%+ of DA players, male or female, playing HS won't matter. They will never go pro or play for national teams. At most they go on and play a few years in college. However, without them clubs can't pay the bills. Go ahead and restrict for the top 1%, or those playing for free at MLS clubs. At least an MLS club might see a payday from a player now and then to justify the cost.

The USA program needs to be looked at a lot deeper than just who won the WWC. You may still arrive at your conclusion, but it is not a simple as you imply
The US won the last two, and was silver before that. And it's not like anyone really gave the US a real run for their money this tournament (and yes, I know Spain played the US 1-2, but the game wasn't as close as the score might indicate).

The 2 most obvious future leaders of the USWNT-Rose Lavelle and Crystal Dunn were both 4 year players for their HS teams and both played USYS for the majority of their youth careers (Dunn played ECNL the last year or 2). Neither one got a call up to the YNT until they were 17/18 years old and both were frequently rostered once they started playing college ball.
USSF is shooting themselves in the foot with this GDA crap and limiting their pool of potential leaders on and off the field.

The girls who are desperate to play HS, should. They have their priorities down and should absolutely play HS.

Parents who want them to play HS are recreating their own days.

Have you seen the coaches and the training at the DA. No different than HS coaches

Mostly true, but ECNL is a competing league with half the talent that does it a different way. GDA also has many of its players still playing HS. College has the same format as ECNL and HS. Unless that changes the GDA having an impact of WNT development is a farce.

Yes, I agree. When both of those examples had a decision to ma....or...right...there was no decision.
