I took a look at Surf's website (they're advertising for tryout signups already on BOTN, yet when you go to the site you can't find any info on locations. This particular line caught my attention

"100% of the girls on their first team (ECNL), and close to 100% of the girls on their second team at U18 received scholarships to play soccer in college in 2015"

Even if true - that's all the SD teams! The way it reads it would be easy for someone to think it's about local teams. They frequently call it Surf Soccer Club, not differentiating between SD or NY. Poorly designed site with no info about tryouts or really how the whole thing is structured, what teams play where, what leagues, divisions etc. You can find some of it but a newbie to club soccer would be easily mislead and poorly informed

It was no accident that they didn't make it clear that it was the SD team.

Oh I know it wasn't. Luckily I knew what was going on with them (for the most part). Maybe LM helped them design the site :)

After the 2 girls teams leave what will be left of Surf on LI? Not so sure Westchester will pan out the way they envisioned either.

I see that as a disadvantage on some ways. Are they really expected to write letters of recommendation to conference rival coaches?

They don't even have time to coach during their fall seasons

That is so true - been there with a middle school aged team. Never saw ours during the fall except one game when he happened to be in town. Had a cra* assistant coach all fall until after the new year. He was good once he participated, but many months were wasted. It works well for HS aged teams since they're off in the fall. ECNL is filled with college coaches, since, again, the schedule works. I don't see how a college coach could do GDA with it's ten month commitment.

The idea of Surf getting ECNL or GDA was fake news created by LM. He fancies himself a real soccer reporter, but he is obviously not. Real soccer people could care less about him or his website. Only novices pay attention. He has only hurt his credibility over the last year or so, that his own sponsors know his angles and don't trust him. And I do mean all of his sponsors.

I'm no fan of Larry, but it wasn't really fake news. Surf NY was trying for both and expected the clout of the Surf name to allow them to choose what worked best for them. They believed it themselves and had big plans, but obviously that wasn't good enough.

They relied too heavily on LM's "knowledge" of the area and didn't do enough due diligence themselves. They also went too big out of the gate. They're so big and successful out West but clearly forgot that Rome wasn't built in a day, particularly in this over saturated market.

We keeping talking about they. They handed Surfs name to some local guy. It was the local guy who relied too much on Larry and went too big too fast

Don't outsource your reputation to some guy and Larry

Does NY Surf really have its stuff together? We registered for tryouts and got an email with blank spaces for date/time/location. It seems even the "professional" organizations all have high school dropouts running their sites.

Just like franchise operations - much of it comes down to how good the local management team is/how well they execute a roll out
