Cryer had the same situation with a group of players/parents and has made his living off that one group ever since.

I won't get into the debate here with you. It's been widely (and wildly) debated in other threads. Go look at comments regarding the PDA-Barcelona game and you might understand, but I don't expect you to get it.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostNope, not a PDA parent. Am a parent at another ECNL club, so D’s team has faced PDA many times over the years (tho not this year as we are in New England conference now). PDA-Barca was a great example of a team in mid-season vs a team coming off a HS season. You can believe what you want, but there is a massive difference between “kick and run” vs “playing direct”. Many national teams and overseas professional teams play direct. Germany won a World Cup playing direct. Not sure how much Upton Sinclair knows about soccer, but I’m guessing not much.

Even if PDA managed to win that game by scoring off an error by a Barcelona defender, the two teams were light years apart in technical proficiency.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostBarcelona as a team played a specific type of soccer. Players received the ball, then passed the ball and then move and repeat. Very pretty soccer for sure. But that type of soccer does not require players to have strong ball handling skills other than first touch and passing. You will not see those Barca players beating players 1v1 very often, or receiving the ball under pressure, or anything that requires particularly strong individual skill. It is a great way to play soccer, but it doesn't do much to develop the individual player's skills.

You can have the system but without the great players it can be beat by other systems. What has Barca won without that great midfield.
I guess then PDA is further behind then we thought.

Thats why the NFL has combines...they can make a football player from a top natural athlete...
