When you show your kid a statue of George Washington do you tell them that he had slaves, slaughtered peaceful native American women and children, and sipped tea while his soldiers at Valley Forge starved and suffered from frostbite. Not to mention the execution of a few deserters here and there who were just trying to survive.

How long will you endure the guilt of the past, and how much do you expect today's Americans to be burdened with it ? it is the never ending quest of progressives. Uncover some tragic, perceived unjust or even criminal behavior of the past, and heap guilt on modern Americans alive today for it.

Where did I slam the military? I merely pointed out that if we spend tax dollars in the private sector for military purposes then we can spend it on non military applications.

It isn't guilt. It is a search for and recognition of the truth and judging history based upon the truth. And I get it that GW's beliefs and actions have to be judged in part within the context of the time in which he lived. But that doesn't change the fact that he was wrong and acted in ways that were grossly unacceptable to many people even in the 1780's. When he was POTUS he visited Portsmouth NH and noticed one of his escaped slaves in a crowd during a speech. He summoned the town constable and asked him to apprehend the now freedman and return him to his possession. The constable in essence told him to bleep off.

There is absolutely no guilt associated with being truthful about history. The problem with you nutters is that you have rose colored glasses when viewing the past. The reality is that the first 200 years of this nation were bloody and unpleasant. Despite your nostalgia for the past we have made a lot of progress in the last 40 years.

North Carolina is now finding itself in a potential massive quagmire due to its pandering to a small number of fundamentalist whackjobs.
