When the novel coronavirus 2019 was introduced we were told it was very serious: incredibly infectious (r-naught > 2) and accompanied by a high morbidity rate (2% +). No reasonable person would expect ZERO deaths. So I ask, how many deaths would you expect this very serious and very deadly virus would produce in the US?

Until you identify that number you have no basis for judging US response as good or bad.
The NYT article provides a reference point to use as the basis for judgment (200K to 1.7M). If you have a better projection we should use, please share it.

be careful of saying "none" as that would imply you don't feel COVID19 is deadly threat.

I understand this conflict. IMO the clubs should have followed the guidance and not put the families in this position.

Our club made it very clear that no family was even expected to attend. A poll went out asking who WANTED to attend. The YES replies came quickly. No family is being put into a position.

IMO it was the responsibility of the clubs to follow the guidance, not put it up for a vote.

The guidance from the state is that out-of-state travel for sports teams is ALLOWED subject to testing and quarantine. The CDC guidance is targeted to the fatties visiting their poor relatives in desnely populate areas, but they cant really come out and say that, so they just say "Everyone". Look at the Numbers

              Huh?

              As of Nov. 19....

Out-of-state travel for recreational play, competitive training sessions, practices,
competitions or any other type of sporting event (“Sport Event”) is strongly discouraged
as traveling may increase the chances of exposing players, coaches, and others to
COVID-19 or unknowingly spreading it to others, particularly if a team from an area with
high levels of COVID-19 competes with a team from an area with low levels of the virus.

exactly. "strongly discouraged" still means "allowed"

But not “prohibited”. Words matter. If it was not allowed then aircraft would be grounded.

It is not prohibited. It is strongly discouraged and soccer clubs everyone else understands what strongly discouraged means.

Double uggggg. I doubt you could find one of those highly respected scientists you speak of so fondly to agree with that decision.

As a policy, of course they won't. But in our specific instance I think they would all agree that a) Given our demographics and lifestyle the risk presented to us is acceptably low, and b) given our responsible behaviors the risk we pose to others is equivalently low. So we go

Oh sure. The guidance is meant for everyone else but surely not for you.

I hope you and yours escape the ravages of this virus but so many were not, are not, and will not be so lucky. Be very careful with this deadly little monster. Demographics and lifestyle may offer some protection but are no guarantee against this virulent killer that will exploit any chances it gets.
