I am not a hard core Trumper, I acknowledge his faults, but likewise anti-Trumpers should acknowledge good things he did.
Mexico did not cut a check but the re-work of NAFTA and the need for asylum seekers to seek in the first country they cross rather than traveling through several countries to reach America is an effective ‘payment’.
The Lincoln comment is pure hyperbole as are many of Trumps statements, but he did good things for minorities in legal reform, opportunity zones, job creation, among others.
Trump did nothing to bring people together but blaming him for the separation is not accurate. Obama’s administration created a divide that made Trump’s election possible. Hilary’s ‘deplorables’ comment came before Trumps election. The comments about Republican’s from Democratic pols and voters have been highly charged. As the saying goes: if you do not learn from history you will be doomed to repeat it. If you do not want to see Trump 2024, then force our politicians to stop the identity politics that made Trumps first term possible.

How did Obama create a divide? Just by being the first black president? Remember he was a two term president so he must have been doing something right. The only thing that Obama did that “created” the Trump presidency was roast Trump to his face at that Correspondents dinner. That’s when Trump decided to run for revenge; not because he gave two craps about the country or had a better idea of how to serve the American people, but to get revenge because a black man got the better of him. Remember he lost the popular vote by millions of votes to Hillary Clinton (and I’ll spell that out for you: more Americans voted for Clinton than Trump in 2016). If we didn’t have a crazy system that gives more electoral votes to states with small populations as big ones, he would have lost. Remember that it was 13 states that formed the union, and that they let other states join. States that gave up their autonomy with the promise of having a say in how they were, and are, governed. Are you willing to give that away? Your individual politics may currently align with CA, but what about 50 years ago, were they the same then, will they be the same 50 years from now. Or are you willing to forever give away your voice to a more populous state?

First off: racism exists, fully acknowledged. Now that that is set: Obama created a divide by empowering everyone to end all substantive arguments about policy, ideas, economies, anything at all, by labeling the opposite party a racist. Some may have been racist but not all, and not most. That segment of the population that could no longer voice their opinions without being labeled racist are the ones who Trump resonated with out of pure frustration. You don’t get Trump without the effects of the previous administration. To be clear, I’m trying to help you here, if you don’t want Trump or another like him, then look at how he came to be and see what can be done differently.
