Estimates FROM march projected as many as 1.7M and as few as 200K.
In Dec we are currently at 315K. Yes, we could be doing better, but according to those scientific projections we could be doing a lot worse. Do you distrust the NYT? Is Math hard for you?

Using Data from John Hopkins in late OCtober:

"The US ranks ninth in terms of deaths per capita: For every 1 million people, 69 people have died of the virus. That puts it behind Spain and Mexico but ahead of the United Kingdom."

The USA just absolutely rots in their war against this virus. ONLY 8 COUNTRIES in the word have done worse. Complete embarrassment.

yea, that was always built into the model. US has more obesity, and therefore more risk, and higher projections. Did you read the article? Based on the projections from March of globally renowned scientists, including Fauci, the US is doing way better than projected.

Stop finding convenient stats that fit your hysteria narrative. The numbers that matter are right in front of your face.

ru fkg stupid? this is not a race for a prize for coming in 1st! Thank god for TRUMP, the numbers would have been worse with hillary!

Imagine how many 1000s more people would have been saved if democrats focused on working with republicans in saving lives instead of focusing on calling our POTUS racist for 4 years!

Stop defending crap. We should have been able to beat more then 9 countries on the planet.

You're data is outdated. US is 13th as per Hopkins as of today.

Also to consider, are all countries cataloging things the same way? note that 3rd world countries are absent from these lists. Are you suggesting 3rd world countries did a better job fighting this virus, say Uganda for example who's Healthcare System is ranked nearly last by The Who? or may you consider that they didn't test and log as other countries did, or perhaps another variable such as climate/temperature is in play. Discrepancies abound among developed nations as well. Countries that have socialized medicine do not create inadvertent incentives for for-profit hospitals with per case payments. I am not suggesting the virus is a hoax, but we are not talking apples to apples here.

This isn't about beating other countries. This about saving US lives.
                On a scale of 0 - 10 with 0 being 1.7M dead and 10 being only 200K, US gets a 9.23

If your D got a 92.3 on her test would you expect the Prof to give her an "A" or an "A-"

or the data-backed science. There is no shortage of data showing outdoor transmission is nearly non-existent, that youth sports haven't been identified as risky, that clusters associated with sports teams have not emerged as anything significant, and that plane travel is safer than going to the grocery store.

Now, if I act like a jackass and drive 75 miles to a beachside bar (the equivalent of driving across two state into ME if I were in Boston) with all the other parents on our team so we can spend the night drinking and singing Only the Good Die Young, then yeah, I am selfish and irresponsible. Otherwise, please show me the science that says anything about flying to play soccer, and wearing masks responsibly on the sidelines and in the lobby introduces risk beyond that which we already accept in our everyday lives right here at home.
Thank you for a sane and coherent post in this thread.

There is no good excuse for our poor response. The first stimulus was 3 TRILLION dollars and we wasted it. It was not even accompanied by a coordinated strategy to defeat the virus. We are at square one.

Many many other counties are in a better position having sacrificed less. We sucked.

This is not picking and choosing. They are completely different scenarios. One, soccer tournaments, is scientifically observed to be safe. The other is the source of numerous spreader events across the country.

Finally a point to agree on. I, also, am against wasting trillions of dollars.

We are going as my daughter feels a responsibility to go as part of the team and we will do everything possible to stay safe. I just hope everyone else who goes does the same. I just really hope that I don’t see groups of players running around the hotel and hanging out together.

and we - you and I and even the cons - will be paying for this for years to come. paying trump's tax cuts too.
