Part of being a good GK is being a good communicator. It's less common to see verbal GK at the younger ages as it can take them awhile to find their voice and be comfortable with it.

It's part of the keeper's role to communicate. Don't let it hurt your feelings
A real shortfall among youth keeper coaches as well as the head coach is they don't teach the "communications" part of the game. It would be really helpful if GKs had better coaching on how to coach their field....rarely is this something a keeper coach does. Just because you are a more quiet GKs as a personality doesn't mean they can't be good communicators if they know when and how. Some the English and German premier GKs aren't most talkative persons, but are effective when they do talk.

edit...meant "some of the English and German permier GKS"..

Some of things I'm talking about are like "hey, remember, he only receives with his right foot" or "man on your left shoulder", "switch the field", etc. etc. This kindof stuff should be pretty normal for a GK to say, if they are given the authority and tools.

The NT keeper is unique in the keepers I have seen in this area. He reads the game expertly , so his communication is full of useful information. He commands his area, can pass accurately with both feet and is the best shot stopper I have seen at this age and the age above. A real pleasure to watch.

This is the keeper on Revs '02? Or am I lost?

Most coaches dont' know what to do with GK because most never played the position. If you've got a GK you want to make sure the club had top notch GK training. Not only does that include the actual training itself (at least twice/week on top of team training) but a trainer who will occasionally watch games and give the GK feedback. The team coach isn't likely to give the feedback necessary on more subtle things or important things like communication. I've got one GK in college and when she was getting recruited she consistently got feedback from coaches about her effective communication. Strangely she isn't a super talkative person (a girl too lol) but on the field she's a boss.

Gotta love anonymous posters slamming 13 year olds at 3 am. Clearly it's eating you up inside. 99.5% certain you don't know a thing about what makes a good GK either.

If the kid can't hack it he'll be dropped soon enough - lord knows the Revs have a track record of not developing their talent. But the kid is off to a great start.

A good argument could be made that if, at a young age, you truly desire to be the best possible goalie, you should search for and play for the worst possible team.
