So it’s interesting then that coaches received a survey from USYS just a few weeks ago on the topic of BY/SG that specifically sought our perspective and asked for data points. Seems a bit premature to have formulated a strong perspective if you just did a national survey. Takes us weeks at work to crunch stuff like that.

Not saying they are lying because maybe they have some new insider info. But as of last week it was still on the table and that a decision will be made in a timely manner. That was from the big dog CL but like I said maybe something has changed.

This could also mean USYS had no intention of going back had to make it look like they were willing to look interested in data.
        Happens all the time.

ECNL has no power without the support of governing bodies.

From what I've heard, this would be a change in opinion and mean that a change back may never happen. I heard back in 2016 USYS was not happy about the switch to BY, thought it was a mistake, and in prior attempts to rally support to switch back they were leading the charge. If their opinion now has changed to the extent that they are the roadblock, the pro-GY people lost one of their biggest allies.

Was there a key leadership change at USYS in thrblast
couple years that would result in a change in the point of view? They have the data concerning the impact and it’s doubtful it changed much.

The reason we have not heard anything about this is because the momentum that ECNL had back in May is gone. ECNL and USSF have not had talks about this in months. The post on twitter this was happening came from ECNL directors when it seemed like a possibility was posted prematurely which is why it’s been crickets about the topic.

The reason no announcement has happened is because you don’t announce things are staying the same? To change to back will only create headaches that nobody wants to deal with.

Sorry Aug to December families especially girls. But your kid was born in the wrong months will have to just work harder and hope it all works out.

                Grad Year is officially dead!

Only it's very much not dead. Coaches have spoken to us directly about the change for fall 2025. My understanding is DOB cutoff of 8/1 and our teams are actively preparing for the switch. I am baffled people think this is going to be difficult to roll out. A decent percentage of older Q4 kids will stay where they are but some will drop down an age bracket. There is always lots of movement in the younger age brackets this will just be part of the regular yearly shuffle. It's not tricky.

It definitely was a possibility but now that’s over. Wait and see new info will come out soon. Things are staying the same. Maybe ECNL will add bio banding but as of now no new changes for 25/26.

I've seen a few comments in here along the lines of ECNL can't change to GY without USYS approval. I don't really follow, so can someone set me straight? ECNL is sanctioned by US Club not USYS. Why would they care what USYS says? I could understand some clubs that have teams in both ECNL and in other leagues sanctioned by USYS not wanting to deal with two different cutoff dates, but even that doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Kid has a birthday, she's either U13 or or U14 depending on what team she makes and what league that team plays in.

If the people pointing to the need for USYS approval really mean US Soccer approval, I could understand that line of thinking since US Soccer is the governing body responsible for overseeing all of soccer in this country. But if US Soccer actually had that kind of power, wouldn't they have done away with the alphabet soup of leagues a long time ago and rolled up all the ECNL's, GA's, DPL's, NPL's, EDP's, USYS National Leagues, EA's, MLS's, NAL's, and even local leagues like NECSL into one consolidated structure? They've been as toothless as your Granny, don't see them forcing ECNL to use BY if ECNL doesn't want to.

Actually the ECNL is poised to just do whatever they want. They have eclipsed GA. They straight up do not care about the road to professional soccer. Their ONLY objective is college recruiting. They answer to college coaches and the families trying to get their kids in front of those coaches. No idea what text or screenshot or message in a bottle you were privy to but as far as the ECNL and GA are concerned it's happening.

My info is what it is. Can only go off what I’m told by trusted sources. USSF was entertaining the idea. ECNL and USYS soccer had interest if the twitch back and were pushing in that direction but comes down to the majority of the top ECNL teams do not want to change. Told ECNL it would be hard for them to have different age group with various rules. Other influences became more work for ECNL to the point where they are just taking a break from fighting and leaving things alone for now. No fall 25/26 and as it sits no change for any leave to GY.

Just because they can do it doesn’t mean they will. It’s better do things with your wife’s permission than without it. Will only make things worse from soccer people who all hate each other. Not worth the fight at this point.

So many conflicting reports from anonymous people who claim to be in the know ... leaves no choice but to just prepare for either outcome and wait.
