The 200lb senior, or the 120lb freshman. Not saying it's right, just that this is what goes on in HS soccer.Totally different experience to club.

As to the ctrbacks being out - are we talking suspensions? I know one of the boys had a suspension last year. Hope the kids aren't messing up in their final season of Gonk soccer.
200lb senior.........which bubble town are you from?

one center back out due to hitting yellow card limit during nipmuc game, must sit 2 games.

Gonk coach really doesn't like cards. All players know this. Tough for defenders, though.

...........and juniors and seniors who can not handle the play make it worse.........get a clue!!!

Juniors are pretty bad, I agree, with a couple of exceptions. Seniors, for the most part, are very, very good. Sophs & freshmen are inexperienced & not effective against the big boys. JV is not dominating as they have done in the last few years. Next year should be very very interesting.

Do not count them out. Saw them play Saturday. They can play.

Yes, they always get in by virtue of winning their league.

I was at the game on Saturday - SJ vs Wach - Two observations - one ref was very biased against SJ - called Penalty and then moved the ball out of the area taking away a penalty shot, blew his whistle nearly every 2-3 minutes - most always against SJ.
Second observation - the SJ coach did not play to win. With game tied and ball in the attacking third he had his defensive line of 4 stay deep in their own end - 30 yard line (football field) not putting any pressure in the attack or supporting the midfielders. 4 defenders covering one player. Any good coach would have seen this and adjusted. Wach had several good scoring opportunities and a few point blank misses, so the score could have been worse. SJ needs a new coach in a bad way. They would not tolerate his performance if this were their football team or basketball team.

So both the Coach and the Referee conspired against St Johns. Thank you alerting us to this travesty of justice. Someone should look into this.

The coach at St Johns is not qualified to manage a varsity team. He has no philosophy of play and his substitution patterns are downright mind-boggling. He has run a decent program into the dirt and I am sure that prospective players are making decisons to go elsewhere; it's not always about the education.

Frankly, most HS programs are coached by some kid's dad. But we should be lucky anyone is willing to coach at all. Nobody is getting rich off it. They have to put up with the anonymous tough guy crap on posts like this. You can't have a day job and get to practice on time. Come on people. Lighten up. It's high school soccer. If your kid is going anywhere have them try out for the Bolts or Revs.

Best you can do is have a core of club players and make sure they bring the knowledge (and have the leadership to do so). It's a REALLY simple game. Really it is. Win it in the air. Play it the way you're facing. Move to space. Dump it in the corners on overlapping runs. Cross the ball. Contain on defense. Make it easy for your goalie. And play enough that the ball sticks to your feet so you can play possession soccer. That's it. Really. After that it's all heart. Go to the ball and win the ball.

Nice post. You should send a copy over to the "how to break down a 3-5-2" thread. They"ve got 10 pages on it...

On top of that, his players are a bunch of dirty cheap shot artists. Surprising that a private school would let itself be represented on the field that way.
