Complaining about a U10/U11 coaching change?

Soccer futures are now made or destroyed at u10/u11 with Boys DA going down that low. Soon girls will be the same story. If you're not identified by u10/u11 for the pyramid path to the pros, forget it. Add in the birth year change and only the early bloomers & the players born early in the year need apply.

Yup. Except add in, it's not always about the pyramid-it's about getting those development $ later.

Coaching changes happen a lot, and sometimes make parents unhappy. I'm not sure why this one caused such an uproar--both coaches involved are good coaches who remain on good terms, even though one of them is now at a different club--but it did.

                What will happen to ODP?

That said, this is an important concern. I don't have an issue with subsidized training offered to younger kids, but I do have an issue if the funnel is closed at age 11. Even if one discards questions of fairness (sports is unfair, after all)--it would be stupid, as lots of miniature Messis will find themselves too slow and unathletic to function at a high level when they become teenagers. Even guys like Messi and Cruyff, neither of them a physical stud, were sufficiently good enough athletes that they simply can't be overpowered by bigger, faster, and stronger players. But lots of pint-sized Pirlos will find that their l33t dribbling skills don't matter if they can simply be shoved off the ball by defenders.

My son had him a long while back and liked him a lot. Opinion on him over the years has been very divided.

i haven't heard much on the good side, mostly bad or indifferent. I think FC is cutting out the dead wood this summer after previous DOC was asleep at the wheel for a few years. Nice of Westside to give him a home but I doubt he will be to their standards.

They made a great hire a couple of years ago on the boys side. I think the results from this is prompting them to cut some of the long term dead wood.

my son was on a team with popo. He gets along real well with the kids. as a coach he is just ok. some parents and kids really hated him. He also makes fun or berates kids who he thinks sucks behind their backs. Also gets angry at kids who do not listen to his orders on the field but most of the kids could not understand him given his high pitched voice and spanish accent.
