Looks a lot like the previous and many years. Westside and FC Portland have a long history in state cup. PCU has really ticked upwards; jst like in the olden days. I think that many people are underestimating this club. Cascade and Eastside typically mark upward as well.

BSC started off as a club formed by parents wanting to keep their girls' rec team together. They lost a couple of their key players to Westside and FC but convinced them to come back. Thus began the occasional state cup successes for them. Girls' success brought in younger brothers' teams and neighboring kids joined-including some boys who had been cut from #1 Westside and FC teams. Having another club in this area and coach recruitment really helped them.

ADF is a work in progress. Interesting model. Jo was developed by Westside and his mentor Paul. I know players there that were also cut from other clubs or their parents didn't want them sitting on the bench on their old teams. Like BSC, ADF could continue to grow and show even better in future state cup.

I agree, PCU is a bit surprising as they have struggled over the years to be competitive in the higher divisions. Looks like a big turn around is underway. Wonder if they are consolidating talent from NEU and other eastside clubs?

Likely so for PCU. Their spread of neighborhoods to draw from is pretty wide.

The 04 PCU team is solid. There were three or four good Eastside boys who moved over to PCU last year and have helped the team. The remaining Eastside 04 Red boys are in Eastside's DA.

Could be that the teams without a DA will shine brighter in OYSA.

The clubs without DA will certainly begin dominating OYSA in the DA age groups due to lack of competition. PCU was a benefactor this year due to confusion around the start of the DA league. Will be a momentary uptick but is likely to take big drop over the next several years.

If BSC wins State cup it will only be the second time in the club's history that they done so. First time was two years ago with a u12 girls team.

The boys DA will probably have some sort of effect on the teams clubs will field in the OYSA. As the kids age it's been interesting to watch the effect of the TA on WST.

On the boys side, it's the older age groups (except the U16s, which seem to be a perennially weak class) that have done best for Westside, with U13, U14, U15, U17, and U18 teams in the OYSA finals.

The U11s and U12s were hit hard by controversy in the 2015-2016 season, with a large number of pissed-off parents (including THREE of last year's 04 team managers) bolting for FC, and a couple families going to ADF. Given that the 06 Copa team had to forfeit a match earlier this year for not enough players, their appearance in the semifinals was miraculous.

While talking about the development league is normally considered taboo on TS, both Westside's 07 and 08 classes are VERY good....

                      What controversy?

There was an unpopular coaching change with last year's 05 Copa (which was U10 under the old system), and the 04 Copa White team was unsuccessful.

Something unpopular seemed to happen with 00 Copa team too.

i heard that FC finally got rid of Popo and he's headed over to Westside, so likely to be more unhappy parents about coaching changes. My daughter had him a couple of years ago and he was no beuno.

Is Popo the same as Rodolfo Rodriguez?
