Offered by whom? Hopefully not the Brazilian that serves two masters that keeps hanging around the Copa and FC games.

Why would someone want to have their kids travel 4 hours on a bus each way to play Timbers DA in Seattle, WA when the equivalent schedule is now Available to the 05's in Oregon with today's DA announcement. Only benefit I can see is getting to play Seattle united and crossfire premier but that is only 4 or 5 games all year and the rest of the games leave very little to be desired.....not to mention that as a parent you have to drive back and forth to Seattle every Saturday if you want to watch your son play....

It sounds like you have some first-hand knowledge.
So how many of those 15 or 04 and how many orange 05?

Parents are willing to send their kids on a bus 4hrs each way to play DA because they think that will be the golden ticket to US National Teams and recruitment to top D1 universities like Stanford and UCLA.

The Brazilian will coach the PTFC '05's. He won't even be on the PTFC payroll. He is being bankrolled by BB. Only hitch is that BB has asked that his '05 son plays if he keepdls bankrolling salary. Sneaky snake oil sh!t going on

Why do so many parents fall into this trap?

Please allow me to correct you based on my experience, the announcements, and my observations.

You mean every other week (USSDA requires 1 match per weekend) when it comes to Seattle travel, the Timbers' teams will get home matches 50% of the time too. Additionally and as announced, all teams will be playing a year up in Washington.

The biggest benefit, should my son's name be on the list next week, I see is the 4x per week training in the only real enviornment in Portland. Not to say there aren't other qualified coaches outside the academy, but the environment is very different. Unless you've experienced it with an older child, it's quite different from the other paid situations here in town. The simple truth is, the environments are not even comparable for the serious player.

So, you are saying that it has been confirmed (You have been told) that the Seattle/WA DA clubs ARE going to travel to PDX?

It's my understanding the Washington DA 04 have not agreed to travel to Portland for games. The purpose of the program in the 05/04 DA group is less travel and more meaningful games.
Also totally gross that Timbers are allowing any parent to pay for a coach just so his son can be on the team. Why aren't players going based on merit instead of who daddy wants his son playing with? If it's the same parent and ex-ADF coach I heard the nepotism almost destroyed that team.

DA has plenty of nepotism and political favors going on. You'd hope it will all be about skill, but it happens even at the highest levels. The good news it does happen a lot less than at the premier club level or certainly vs town level, where every daddy coach gives his kid and his friends all the PT. So when that stuff happens keep in mind it is pretty rare

Why do even the little boys DA get minimum 4x trainings per week and only one game per weekend as mandated by USSDA? Why does the Thorns GDA only say 2-3 trainings per week and double headers on weekends? Why do the young boys get the actual DA experience but the girls get the same as club soccer?

WOW- If that is what you have been told you will get you are even more dilusional than I thought. There is a thing you are forgetting- to get into Stanford you need grades and the ability to score highly on entrance exams. You don't get admitted to that university just because you play soccer...Also, just so you are clear, you are not playing against "academy teams" but rather are just making yourselves a part of the Seattle area DA program much like the one that is here. Not until you reach the older ages are you truly playing the other MLS "academy" and top club academy teams on the west coast. Riding a bus to play snohomish DA and the rest are going to be a waste of a day. I would think you would be able to schedule some friendlies against Seattle united or crossfire premier (which really are the only 2 clubs worth that drive) if you are the mighty Timbers
