Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if there are six daddies on Crossfire who can outbid Lucius Malfoy next year. While Ben Billiups is loaded, there are lots of people in Lake O. who could hire him to wax their Porsches. If spots on the TA team are for sale, expect Crossfire kids to win those auctions.

No one believes crossfire Oregon coaches. Boys or girls. The entire club has gone from coaching soccer to lying sales people the past years.

Everyone knows at least one crossfire Oregon coach and parent that lies out their Butt any chance they get.

Here's the difference- those with true wealth and morals make their kids earn their way on to those types of rosters. I know several crossfire 05 parents (the top in terms of talent) and I know for a fact they would not put a dollar into the Timbers pockets just so their so they could say their son is on that roster but does not play. And who drives porsches? More like Ferrari, Bentley and Lamborghini

                Sure.

Because we all know that rich guys are more virtuous and worthy than the rest of us, which G*d proves by showering them with money. And none of them would ever dream of trying to buy a stairway to heaven.

                Right.

                  Right.
                  Kinda negative, dude.
So your lot is more virtuous because you don’t have the money to buy your kids way into that squad.
Come off it. If you would have paid attention in school, and not ended up with a mediocre job, but instead a very high paying job - you are saying you wouldn’t use your financial influence?
                  Yeah.

The point you are missing here, is that most of the affluent at Crossfire got there by a combination of using their heads and working hard. That’s the expectation for the kids, too.

So, I’m sure you answered my question in the affirmative...so you are more like us than you think, and know you know why.

                      Yeah.
The ethics of Crossfire on display. Everything is for sale, and everyone has their price.

Would I be tempted were I rich? Hard to say; I'd like to think not, but who knows. That doesn't mean I can't object when those who are try to game the system.

Merritt Paulsen got ahead by having a daddy who was W's secretary of the treasury and who robbed the country blind. And I'm sure none of y'all weren't born with silver spoons in their mouths and connections up the wazoo.

All the kids in the DA program work hard. Even Draco Malfoy busts his a** in practice, I bet. But some have more opportunities than others; and one of the reason US soccer still sucks is that is remains a predominantly upper-class sport; the talented kids from poor communities (many of them Latino, but class is just as important as race here) often get frozen out of the process.

Here's an important thing to consider: Crossfire are not a good soccer team.

A easy generalization to make, but not as bad as you make it out to be.
First, Hispanic players from low income families are all Leo Messi.
Second, most DA clubs have scholarship players, fundraise for trips to San Diego etc.
Third, some clubs are very proactive in bringing lower income players into their program - look at the great job Westside does with that.

Do some lower income kids get ‘frozen out’ - probably. Just like basketball, football, and baseball. It’s a known issue, an important issue and one that is being given a decent an improving amount of attention, with more attention yet to come.

The ‘talented kids from poor communities’ believe me, are getting more opportunity than you think. It’s the average (or even above average) kids from poor communities that are still getting a raw deal.

                              Correction: NOT all Leo Messi

Yes, Westside does an excellent job of recruiting and supporting lower-income kids, and yes, not all Latinos are Messi. Never said otherwise.

But a lot of really good kids are still flying under the OYSA/DA radar, for various reasons.

Some are not here legally and cannot register with OYSA (which checks nationality--not because of US immigration law, but because of FIFA regulations).

Some live in places where there's no "elite" club nearby. Many join informal clubs not affiliated with OYSA or US Soccer. Many stick to the futsal gyms. Some join clubs like Cuervos FC that are far less organized then FC Whatever, and routinely sneered at in this forum.

But a lot of them are really good soccer players. Not all of them are DA material. But finding top talent is like sluicing for gold; you gotta go through a lot of rubble before you hit paydirt. Messi doesn't simply walk into tryouts to claim his spot, wherever he may come from.
