Of course people talk smack about the MLS Timbers DA it's the top youth offering in these remote NW parts (outside of the Sounders MLS DA). Because it's exclusive and selective absolutely has no club comparable in Oregon. That's how it should be.
Anyway there is no cause to talk smack about the de facto OYSA/Prem/D1 league that plays only itself 4x a year. It's almost D(O)A and yes it's a joke.
All the OYSA teams basically only play each other a bunch too.
Those three, along with FC, have provided TA with most of their talent. The major exceptions to that are:
* kids who live outside the metro area (quite a few kids from the Willamette Valley, and a few even from places like Bend or Medford)
* ADF; which managed to recruit away quite a few kids with a somewhat different business model (a higher cost structure, and arguably more focused and technical training than a classic youth club).
But the TA was still mainly local clubs running a local club business model. The idea being floated was TA running geographically-dispersed academy teams at local clubs (mainly alliance clubs, though if they wanted a south metro affiliate, OPFC would be the best choice), including subsidizing the training of at least some of the kids. A much stronger relationship than the Timbers Alliance.
USSDA does allow U15-only DA clubs, so there is precedent for this.
OTOH, there's still the question of how committed the Timbers really are--rumors abound that they don't consider the local market to be worth it, and the make-up of the U18/U19 team is not a vote of confidence in local players.
We will see if TA even exists below u15 when the $1,000,000 “donation” runs out and BB is gone from TA
Come on now. I'm sure Bend could kick the snot out of UPDX.
They could not even beat bsc back in the day what makes you think it would be any different now. As kids “wash out” of TA and come back to local teams it will be interesting. Historically they have all gone together to one location but only time will tell- I am guessing it will not be Bend though...

Updx today is nothing like the BSC team from two years ago that took Copa to pks.
