Instead every club/director/coach/president, etc insists that they have the biggest and best thing since sliced bread and really only wants to collect $ nothing more nothing less. Our children pay the price, TA among others are a complete joke as was shown in Oceanside, not because our market lacks talent, but because our market lacks integrity and accountable direction and most are apathetic to it...,
    Sadly true.

He’s does not “feel” and see the field well enough and not talented enough with the ball to play in the middle and not fast enough to play on the outside at higher levels but is not afraid to mix it up and get chippy and play in mainly one direction which is perfect for a defender and was jaime’s golden child from westside so he had to make the TA roster....do I need to say any more?

And by the way, the 3 Oregon kids that went to California for the recent us soccer camp were completely out of place and did not belong....

If anyone from Copa was the "golden child", it was RTR, not JCB. But... and this applies to Westside just as much as any other club, who is the top player at 11 may not be the top player at 13. C'est la vie and caveat emptor.

Were you there? (I wasn't, and have no idea how the camp went; but you seem to claim actual knowledge).

Wow- someone sets a ball on a tee and we are off

This 05 group is incredible. As someone who has been in Oceanside and to other “high profile” 05 tournaments over the last 3-4 years, Oregon has NOBODY that is remotely close to being nationally or regionally relevant. It’s just the facts, don’t care who was named to what camp we just don’t have the requisite talent in 05 or 06 or 07- if we did they would be playing up atleast a couple years already

Just sit back encourage and support your child for the other attributes team sports gives

Nice try, RTR actually had skill, pace and effort- JB coasted and was blown by westside coaches

Might not want to toss the '06s in there.

I think we disagree on what is meant by "golden child".

RTR was generally acknowledged as the top player on 05 Copa; on that we seem to agree.

You, or someone here on TS, seems to have a bee in your bonnet about JCB. He's long been a whipping boy in this forum; I remember two years ago when some fool was calling him all sorts of nasty names in this forum, and linking to his mom's Facebook page. (Don't think that Westside's coaching staff didn't notice that). Not sure if this was the parent of an ODP rival trying to poor-mouth his/her DS's competition; it could even have been an "inside job".

But I seriously doubt that Westside coaches have sufficient "juice" to score their alums invites to USSDA camps, especially two years after they leave the club.

TM is the best 05 in the area and will be in this mix at some point

In a few years, the best 05 in Oregon might be a kid from Korea.

Keep dreaming. He won't develop if he is under current TA Director

One problem with the 05 class is there really ISN'T any clear-cut Best Player; which suggests that nobody in the class is truly outstanding. TM was kinda it for a while... but he wasn't on the list that went down to California last month, and there are reports he has plateaued. Or possibly something else is going on, including a bad coaching fit; even if he as stalled at 13, this doesn't mean stick a fork in him (the same is true for any player).

Of course, all I know of TM, or most of the kids at TA, is bits and pieces I hear in this forum, which isn't a terribly reliable source.

TM is still a very good 05 player. The problem is that he does not fit the style that current coach wanted. Half of the TA 05 are not suppose to be there (of course same situation with most of other ages group as well) however, political aside, Oregon's quality players are limited.

We can brag all we want on here but does not change anything. We are living in broken system, so just hope for the best.

Part of me agrees with you... part of me says that if you are worried about "style" among a team of 13-year olds, especially in an academy setting, then yer doin' it wrong.

TA, from what I've seen of 'em, very much likes to tiki taka it up. There's a lot of emphasis on individual skills and technique in the training sessions, and then come match time, they play good old Pep ball. (Or try to). Players whose calling card is athleticism or one-on-one dribbling skills may not look as good in such a system. That's not a problem if the intent is to improve passing ability as part of the curriculum, but if game-time is then being used as a primary evaluation metric (which is what parents and scouts will see) rather than results in training, it could cause some players to look better than they are, and others to look worse.

Of course, "not supposed to be there" implies a reasonably-objective ranking criteria that the Timbers are ignoring, which I don't think really exists. There's quite a few players in Oregon DA and OYSA that one could argue should be on TA, and of course Draco shouldn't be there at all, but a lot depends on the eye of the beholder, and this is true even if politics is removed from the equation.
