Not bashing on anyone or picking sides just stating what me eyes saw. Given ECNL is really more like an all-star team for a given region, I would think that this should not have been a surprise. My DD is not doing ECNL because she is not an all-star. I'm OK with that. She loves the game and loves being a part of a team. No need to put them down.

Are the true ECNL teams forbidden from taking part in the State Cup (either by OYSA, or by ECNL)? Or is their absense simply a case of "we don't have anything to prove"?

While I can understand that pro/college/international-track programs might wish to avoid playing in every last local tournament, so the players can focus on training and development unburdened by excessive travel and the desire to win win win--having them occasionally show up and play against the other A-level youth clubs, if nothing else as a sanity check, might be a useful exercise.

In practice, I'm sure the ECNL teams at FCP/THUSC/CU beat their little sisters in scrimmages from time to time; but right now a lot of the ECNL vs TA banter is so much hot air. Other than THUSC, both FCP and CU girls were embarrassed this past weekend--given that, retorts of "yeah, but our ECNL squads would wipe the floor with you" produce eyerolls. If these clubs' B teams were playing in the state cup finals, then yeah, we might accept the transitive superiority of the A teams. But y'all mostly got waxed, so the suggestion that your A teams are the Best Teams In The State are rather lacking in evidence.

The only evidence that I can offer is our team has never lost a State Cup game (now ECNL) and our last championship State Cup game was either a 5-1 or 6-1 victory

And on the opposite side of that coin--U13 and lower, especially boys, is mostly kids who haven't started puberty. In other words, a crapshoot as to whether the same kids will be good--or even still involved in competitive soccer--once they reach high school.

What we need to look at is which clubs are developing the most "very good" players. Just find a coach and team that works for your kid and who cares what others do?

So look for the club with the most HS aged teams playing at the highest levels. Hint: you don't need to look at the Timbers clubs.

Exactly. If the ECNL teams were allowed to play state cup, every state cup winner U14 and above would be either FCP or CU.
