On the boys side, TA clubs rule. Or at least two of them do; WashT did a complete faceplant.

On the girls side, Tom A. is happy, but the other ECNL-track clubs got shut out. Meanwhile, *EIGHT* TA teams are playing in girls finals.

Big winners this past weekend: Westside (all genders), Eastside boys, THUSC girls, FCSC HS girls. Biggest losers: WashT, PCU, FCP.

One thing I learned from watching some of the girls games this weekend is the competition and speed of play isn't even close to ECNL. Not bashing on anyone or picking sides just stating what me eyes saw. I saw both semi finals of HS aged teams and all 4 of those teams would get buried by any of the local ECNL teams and it would not be close

Given ECNL is really more like an all-star team for a given region, I would think that this should not have been a surprise. My DD is not doing ECNL because she is not an all-star. I'm OK with that. She loves the game and loves being a part of a team. No need to put them down.

            Dumb question

Are the true ECNL teams forbidden from taking part in the State Cup (either by OYSA, or by ECNL)? Or is their absense simply a case of "we don't have anything to prove"?

While I can understand that pro/college/international-track programs might wish to avoid playing in every last local tournament, so the players can focus on training and development unburdened by excessive travel and the desire to win win win--having them occasionally show up and play against the other A-level youth clubs, if nothing else as a sanity check, might be a useful exercise.

In practice, I'm sure the ECNL teams at FCP/THUSC/CU beat their little sisters in scrimmages from time to time; but right now a lot of the ECNL vs TA banter is so much hot air. Other than THUSC, both FCP and CU girls were embarrassed this past weekend--given that, retorts of "yeah, but our ECNL squads would wipe the floor with you" produce eyerolls. If these clubs' B teams were playing in the state cup finals, then yeah, we might accept the transitive superiority of the A teams. But y'all mostly got waxed, so the suggestion that your A teams are the Best Teams In The State are rather lacking in evidence.

The only evidence that I can offer is our team has never lost a State Cup game (now ECNL) and our last championship State Cup game was either a 5-1 or 6-1 victory

The numbers at U14 and above are meaningless with DA and ECNL pulling talent. The only true representation of top Statewide competition is between U11 and U13. The rest only represent the best of what's left.

So does the table look like if you focus only on these age groups?

And on the opposite side of that coin--U13 and lower, especially boys, is mostly kids who haven't started puberty. In other words, a crapshoot as to whether the same kids will be good--or even still involved in competitive soccer--once they reach high school.

So the best is always a "point in time" exercise. Would you like to have the kids come back and play when they are 18?? Duh!

This site is for parents of girls.... Regardless of gender, Oregon's elite players are only a handful and they would've been elite regardless of club. What we need to look at is which clubs are developing the most "very good" players. Just find a coach and team that works for your kid and who cares what others do?

This site is for followers of youth soccer, period....I do agree with you about the rest of your statement.

What's left of what? Just keep following the herd it's what's best for your child's development

So look for the club with the most HS aged teams playing at the highest levels. Hint: you don't need to look at the Timbers clubs.

Exactly. If the ECNL teams were allowed to play state cup, every state cup winner U14 and above would be either FCP or CU.
